Note: Del Mar closes Wednesday, Sept. 4 and Fairplex runs from Friday Sept. 6-27. Santa Anita will run its 24 day fall meet from the Sept. 27 thru Nov. 3 featuring BC championships on Nov. 1-2.

TRELAWNY: This gelding was much the best in this race at 16-1 but jockey Irving Orozco just could not keep him straight as he drifted in down the lane. Was DQ and place fourth and Irving got 3 days for the incident. No mistakes next time around.

WARREN’S CLIFF S.: May have been best in here but got boxed in leaving the second turn and then lacked room off heels into the stretch and until the eighth pole when he split horses. Surged late but lost by a dwindling ¾ of a length. Trainer Jorge Gutierrez was fit to be tied and you may not see jockey Quionez in the irons next time around. If not we will be firing.

HEZA GREAT FRIEND: Took a big shot with this 20k maiden claimer when he got off at 7/1. He broke dead last in this 12 horse field and then had a wide trip. Finished a clear second more than four lengths clear of the other 10 horses in this field losing to the 7/5 chalk. This one is sitting on the win. $$$$$

TWO TERM LEADER: Another who may have been best gut the trip cost him as he stalked the pace while down on the inside. Jockey Nakatani who would rather be on the golf course took hold on the second turn when it appeared that there was no room for him to run. He then switched to the outside losing ground and came on late to miss by a ½ length.

WILD DUDE: We got a bargain basement payoff on this comebacker for Jerry Hollendorfer as this colt ran with some good ones late year and was only 5/2. Came back in here with Bejarano in the irons and just blew this field away paying $9 to win. Look for a repeat win. $$$

MY SLEW: Bobbled at the start and chased from the outside. Swung wide entering the stretch and made a five wide run down the middle of the race course. Just missed by a neck in what was a big effort.

GIFT EXCHANGE: First time starter for Tom Proctor made an eye popping quick move from last to sixth entering the stretch while very wide and rallied to finish a clear third. This colt may want longer and if he gets it next time out we will be heading to the betting windows. $$$
