Went off as the favorite in this $40k claimer going a mile on the grass. Really wanted to run as he was pulling jockey JR Velazquez out of the irons. He ran even after that, just failing to pick up the show dough. Was claimed for the $40k by the very sneaky New York trainer David Jacobson, so we will be looking for this one to show up soon at the big A.
Showed good early speed on in the Grade 3 Ken Maddy on BC Saturday. He fought throughout the stretch but just could not hold off the 2-1 chalk. This filly can flat out run and likes the grass. We look for trainer Carla Gaines to have her set for the win going 6 furlongs on the Hollywood turf course in her next start. $$$
NEW YEAR’S DAY
One of two Baffert trained colts running in the BC Juvenile. This one was a juicy 10-1 while his other colt, Tap It Rich who was coming off his maiden breaker, was sent off at 3-1. New Year’s Day got the money in an outstanding win and now taps himself as one of the early favorites in the Kentucky Derby. Don’t count out Tap it Rich with only two races under his belt. We will keep both on our Kentucky Derby watch so mark them down and start your sheet.
Ran a much better than looked fourth in this $32k claimer going a mile on the grass. Jockey Joe Talamo may have had this one a little too far back, then tried to come five wide into the lane. Ran on with good energy and willingness, just missing the place as one of three on the line. We will be firing away next time out going long on the grass.
Was exiting our HTW list running in the Grade 2 Goldikova. She was let go at almost 8-1 in the betting and made a wide huge run at the 9-5 winner just failing to get up on the line. We will keep this hard trying filly on our list.
First time starter was released on our www.gamingtoday.com web site in my daily horse column. He was my single of the day and just stormed home winning by more than 10 lengths in this $20k maiden claimer. Look for trainer David Hofmans to place him in a starter allowance race next time out and get the money again.
Raced in tight quarters when between foes from the start. He had no place to go, was under a tight hold and in check while behind traffic. Once clear he did not have any run. Just toss this race out and upgrade his chances next time out at what will be a nice price.
Was squeezed off and bumped hard on both sides. He made a four wide run trying to get back into the race and did get up for the show dough in a gutty effort.
