SANTA ANITA

WICKED HEAT: Just moved into the barn of Richard Baltas. After a huge maiden win at Los Al last July, Baltas put this 4yo Unusual Heat gelding on the grass and Bejarano in the irons. He got the easy win just drawing away late while under a long hold. We will be betting right back.

SPRING ACTION: Got the double drop in class and the maiden breaker in his eighth start, cruising home under a Joe Talamo hand ride. He was claimed by Mark Casse who rarely makes one. We look for Casse to put Action back on the grass going long in a starter allowance race.

CONGRATS SEATTLE: Had the misfortune of hooking up with Whiskey Wild who was exiting our HTW list. Seattle finished a solid second behind Whiskey while more than six lengths clear of the rest. He will be a solid single next time out.

LOB CITY: First time starter for trainer Craig Dollase was five wide into the first turn after breaking from the far outside 10 post in this $30k mile maiden claimer. She made a nice three wide bid leaving the second turn but could not run with the 8/5 winner and just did fail to hold off the 9/5 second choice. This filly can run and we will be going to the windows next time out. $$$

ECKERSLEY-BLUE LAW: Second time starter for trainer Scott Hansen was stretching out on the grass and responded with a huge win at 11/1, out-battling the Kent Desormeaux runner Blue Law who also ran huge. We will be looking for both to return on the grass.

GIMMIE DA LUTE: First time starter battled the odds-on first time starter Yiannis tooth and nail from the bell only to lose the bob on the line in what was a great effort. Wire to wire next time out. $$$$$

EMYVALE COURT: First time starter for trainer Tom Proctor had the misfortune to meet the highly regarded first time starter Curlin’s Fox who was sent off at 60 cents on the dollar. Emyvale ran a winning race, losing by just 3/4 of a length at 22/1. She is a runner and will win very soon but not at 22/1. $$$

PAPAS CIERVA: First time starter had red hot connections of trainer Hector Palma and jockey Felipe Valdez. Has won 4 of 10 for this trainer with two second place showings. This filly won for fun at 14/1. Keep an eye out for these connections.
