MARCHMAN: Coming off the layoff for trainer Keith Desormeaux and probably best in this five furlong turf sprint but had to check off heels when tight into the turn. Came out for room and made a sweeping five-wide run, just missing by a fast-dwindling half-length. $$$

ROY H: Another that was most likely best going this five furlong turf distance. Was bumped, steadied and squeezed back to last. Looked hopelessly beat but made a huge rail rally to just miss on the line in what was a big wow effort. $$$$$

ZARQA STAR: Ran a winning race in this $40k maiden claimer but could not run down the even money winner. Was a clear second by more than five lengths over the rest and is set for his graduation next out.

MINER’S LIGHT: Trainer Carla Gaines loves to win here at Del Mar and sent out this first time starter ready for one of her top owners. Was let go in the wagering at 23/1 and looked to have the race won but got bobbed on the line, losing by the slimmest of nostrils in a very tough beat.

HIKING: Was in from over the pond for trainer Simon Callaghan. This filly ran a sneaky good third with the hot riding Prat in the irons and will be set for the win next time out.

ADMIRAL JAXON: Red hot trainer Jeff Mullins had this one ready for the win and he was bet down from 6/1 to 5/2 at post. When the gates sprung open he had not yet been loaded in. Just amazing! He did finally start to run and actually was making up ground late but was declared a nonstarter. If this race didn’t mentally hurt him he wins next time out.

SONGBIRD: First time starter ran to her works just destroying this field from the dead rail by more than six lengths. Could be any kind for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

POSHSKY: Ran super in this 1-1/16 turf route splitting horses late to be one of three necks on the line in a super ride by Prat. This one will be hard to beat next out.

MAJESTIC HEAT: Was being wheeled back in just 9 days by trainer Abrams who is noted for this move. He had the winner here but had to wait when checking off heels on the second turn. Was steadied hard when in tight leaving the turn and that cost her the race. She surged late to just miss by a neck. We will see this filly one more time here at the Spa and it will be in the winner’s circle. $$$
