SANTA ANITA

MOONLIGHT DRIVE: Very seldom do you see Bob Baffert with a Euro import but he sent this colt out in this mile turf race getting first time Lasix. He won for fun at 9/5 with the looks of a colt that would relish 1¼ miles. In the past, turf runners have done well in the Kentucky Derby. We will be all over this one next time out. Head over to the Wynn book and take a shot at 125/1 on the Kentucky Derby future book. This is one sneaky looking colt. $$$$$

MISSY MOUSE: This $16k claimer filly needs some pace to run at and just didn’t get it in a 6 furlong sprint with the lone speed wiring the field. She was claimed by trainer Vladimir Cerin who is having a solid meet. He will have her spotted for the win next time out.

AMERICAN LEAGUE: Was in from the Gate and really wanted to run as he was pulling jockey Prat hard. Had to be steadied into the first turn and that cost him. He then chased outside and went three deep leaving the second turn. Got up for the place and would have been much closer with a better trip.

SHAZARA: First time starter for trainer John Shirreffs who just doesn’t win many first out. Broke slow, steadied and did put in a nice late run with go-to rider Mike Smith in the irons. We see this filly getting the win going long next time out with a good break.

ZICONIC: This first time starter took some good action going off at 5/2. He broke slow, went backward and was out of the picture. Made a huge late run picking up length after length to finish third just missing the place by a half-length. Plenty here to get excited about as the races get longer. $$$

UNINVITED: Baffert looked to have this one ready to roll as his workouts said, yes. He ran his race but just failed to run down the lone speed, 7/5 winner, missing by ¾ of a dwindling length. No mistakes next time out. We will be singling. $$$$$

MONTEGO BAY/TRIBAL TRIBUTE/ LITTLE JERRY: These three finished second, third and fourth with Montego Bay a half-length in front of Tribal Tribute and a neck in front of Little Jerry. We would love to see all three come back in the same race. Will be betting the exacta box and tri box.
