DEL MAR
KLIMT: 2yo colt trained by Bob Baffert for Shah Kaleem Inc., won like a good thing at 2/1, opening up down the lane to draw off by more than five lengths in a loaded field of 10. We will see this one in a 2yo stakes race at Del Mar; possibly on the road to the Kentucky Derby. One to keep a serious eye on and maybe a little future bet to win the Derby. $$$$$
EXCAVATION: First time starter was going 5½ furlongs vs. Klimt. He ran on late with a very long strong stride to just miss the place by a half-length while more than 6 clear of the rest. Will be very hard to beat going 6 furlongs or longer. $$$
PEE WEE REESE: Comebacker showed big early speed but failed to hold off the 6/5 favorite getting tagged on the money. No mistakes for this one next time out as we see him going wire to wire. Will be a solid single in the picks.
BARBARA BEATRICE: Was coming off our HTW list and going a flat mile on the dirt. We were hoping to see her going long on the grass at Del Mar but trainer D’Amato decided to put her in this race with a nice purse of $58k. She won by almost two lengths paying a real nice $9.20. Still hoping to see her at Del Mar on the grass and will keep her on our next out win list. $$$
SWEET TREAT: Ran huge in this $50k maiden claimer battling tooth and nail from the bell only to lose by a neck when coming back on at the wire. In top form and will be very hard to beat next out going a mile.
DYNAMITE CHARGE: This filly trained by Doug O’Neill is part of his loaded barn of 2yos. Crushed a group of 10 fillies by more than four lengths while under a long Mario Gutierrez hold. Ran like she could go around again so look for her in the 2yo filly stakes races at Del Mar.
ADORABLE: Baffert 2yo filly would have won most days but had the misfortune of running against Dynamite Charge. Finished a solid second running like she wants longer, more than two lengths clear of the rest in this 10 horse field. Will likely be odds-on next out. We will be singling, taking 2/1 if possible. $$$$$
LUNAR EXPRESS: Had run second in both her starts as a 2yo last year at Del Mar. Been off since but trainer Richard Baltas had her ready to fire in this race, beating a solid group of maiden special fillies and mares. We see her moving up and repeating vs. winners.
