CANDY LION: Was last seen in May of ’09 but came back in this spot and was just hammered at the windows to even money and won as much the best, trainer Doug O’Neil dipped in and claimed him for 25k and this looks to be a very good pick up.
TEAMWORK: Was last seen at Del Mar in August of ’09 but was another off a long layoff who came back running. This guy broke slow but saved ground, he moved up along the rail but got bumped hard turning for home and was steadied along the rail in midstretch and it looked like his race was over but he finally found an opening and surged late for a very game win. Look for this one to repeat. $$$$$
MYRA G.: Looked best in here but just did fail to handle the live Carla Gaines comebacker, but did finish second six lengths clear of the rest of the field. This girl will be a good single in all the picks next time out.
FIONA FREUD: Was sprinting on the grass for the first time, she broke slow but tried to pull her way into contention as she really looked like she was ready to run, she chased down on the rail but could never get to the lone speed but held third in what was a much better than looked effort. Fiona was red tagged by trainer Mike Mitchell for one of his top clients, Mike knows a good claim when he sees one, so pay attention the next time you see this girl’s name in the entry box. $$$$$
RAUSCHENBERG/MOONLARK: Both ran in the same race against the 80¢ on the dollar runaway winner and both put in top efforts finishing within a half length on each other while almost eight lengths clear of the rest. Just would love to see these two hook up again next time out, if so make a big Q and tri wheel, if not both should come back and win their next starts and both look to be good singles. $$$$$
HARMONIOUS: Was being sent long on the grass for this her second start and this daughter of Dynaformer took to the lawn just like her daddy. She was bet down from 6-1 on the morning line to 2-1 at post and won like the money and breeding predicted. This girl looks to have a big future on the grass and is a must follow up the ladder.
SHOO GEE: 2yo first time starter was bet like the race was over but just could not handle the second time Mike Harrington 2yo but ran a bang up second and will be very hard to beat in her next start.
LUCY GOT LUCKY: Had no shot at the lone speed winner but battled tooth and nail for the place beating out the 7-5 chalk at the wire in a very gutsy effort.
GOLDEN GATE FIELDS
SAVAN’ BRIANNE: You must take notice when you see jockey Schvaneveldt riding for Steve Sherman especially when riding a first time starter like this girl. She won on her own accord and looked like she could go around the track again, look for her to become claim proof next time out and get the repeat win.
QUASICOBRA: Was best in here but had to circle four wide on the second turn and lost a ton of ground but just stormed home losing the nod on the line. $$$$$
FUNI ACT/RIGHT BLEND: These two finished first and second in a straight maiden going 11/16 on the grass with Funi Act who was in from Tampa Bay winning going away late and has the looks of another good turf runner for Jerry Holendorfer. Right Blend was trying the grass for the first time and ran super holding the place and will be hard to beat next time out.
