SANTA ANITA
OREJAS: This was a runner we gave out in my Get Rich With Saber column. He ran a solid second that day after taking the lead in the stretch only to get caught late. He was clear of the rest in this 12 horse field and looks ready to break his maiden at this $20K level next out with the overlooked good jockey Sasha Risenhoover on board.
CATALINA CRUISER: First time starter for John Sadler was 5/1 on the morning line and took some serious action going off at 7/2. He made a huge four-wide move into the stretch with the hot riding Drayden Van Dyke on board and cruised to win going away with a lot left in the tank. He will be able to move up, beat winners and may want to go long.
ORAGEUSE, SAPPHO: These two dead heated for second going down the hill in this straight maiden race with both just missing the win by a neck. Sappho was in from Ireland for trainer D’Amato and ran like she wants to go longer. If we see these two in the same race it will be exacta time and if Sappho goes long next out we will be all in! $$$$$
SHAZARA: Tyler Baze thought he was on Silky Sullivan as he had this filly far back and in another race. He started her run at the half mile pole in this mile turf race and swung her five wide into the lane. She came flying late just missing the show dough by a dwindling half a length. Next time with a better ride she can get home on top.
PAPA TURF: Had a horrible trip as he was in tight and checked off heels nearing the quarter pole. Had to be steadied hard when in tight again when caught behind horses in upper stretch. He then split horses in midstretch surging to the front and winning with ease while under a hard snug Kent Desormeaux hold. Look for the move up and repeat win for the Desormeaux connections. $$$
SECRETO PRIMERO: Looked ready to pounce in this mile turf race but after angling in he had to check off heels leaving the turn until midstretch, which cost him the race. He had plenty of run left as once clear he came again for the place while cutting into the winner’s lead. $$$
