(SANTA ANITA opens on Dec. 26)
DADDY IS A LEGEND: Was in from Keeneland for trainer George Weaver who has brought a string of runners west, this being one of them. This filly just won the Jimmy Durante (not by a nose) by a length after having an eventful trip. She was tugging jockey Joe Bravo out of the saddle while stuck down on the rail. He had to steady her hard into the second turn and again midway on the bend. he came out for room and made a big time five-wide run into the stretch, blasting home for the length win. $$$$$
KRIS’ ROCKET KAT, CONCUR: Both of these colts were running in this straight maiden race for 2yo and both were trained by Richard Baltas. One of his go to riders, Bejarano rode the winner KRIS’ ROCKET KAT and J.R. Velazquez was on CONCUR, who finished second while more than seven lengths clear of the rest in this 11 horse field. We love both of them to win next out.
LASEEN: We will hopefully see this filly running on the grass at Santa Anita. She was let go at 12/1 in the 1-3/8 Red Carpet Handicap and got stuck down on the rail with absolutely no place to get out. Once clear in deep stretch she finished with a buzz, just missing second by a half-length and the win by a length. $$$
PEACE: Maiden 2yo would have won on any other day but had the misfortune of hooking Shivermetimbers, who was exiting our HTW list. Peace battled him tooth and nail but just could not get by him, losing by a head while more than eight lengths clear of the others in this nine horse field. No mistakes next out. He will be a solid single in the picks. $$$$$
MY ROSE OF SAVANNA: This bettor was in a tizzy when this first time starter for Richard Baltas was going off at 35/1. She looked to be launching in this 6½ furlong sprint for $50K maiden fillies but lacked room when in tight along the rail leaving the turn. That cost her the race as once clear she zoomed home to miss by a dwindling half a length paying $17.40 to place.
RIVER BOYNE: Maiden making his first start in the States had some big time works. Ran great despite a slow break, being switched out, in, and out losing ground. He finished a very good second and will be one to play next out. Also look for some runners who finished behind him, Jungle Warfare and Beer Tap, as this could be a key race.
