JOERAY, CHARLIE COWDEN: These two exit a $30K maiden claimer with , a first time starter, running a game second despite being stuck down on the rail and lacking room at the top of the stretch. Once clear he still had enough left to hold off the fast closing Charlie Cowden by ¾ of a length. Cowden was more than three lengths clear of the rest in this 10 horse field. We would love to see these two come back and meet each other again at this$30K price tag at Santa Anita.

ROCKO’S WHEEL: Was last seen winning at SA back on Oct. 7, 2016. Trainer D’Amato gave him a good prep here at Los Al in this mile race, finishing third while making up some ground late. D’Amato’s barn loaded for bear for the Anita meet and the Wheel will win next out at this level going a mile or longer. $$$

ALL OUT BLITZ, RESTORING HOPE, MONMARTRE: We think this race for straight maidens could end up being a key one. These three 2yo battled it out in a three horse race with BLITZ just holding on to beat first time starter HOPE by the shortest of noses with MONMARTRE the post time favorite only ¾ of a length behind both of them and six lengths in front of the rest in this nine horse field. HOPE for Baffert had some nice works for this and will be our $$$$$ play next out, but keep an eye on all runners exiting this race.

DRAFT PICK: Had a troubled trip here as he looked to be making a winning move but had to wait for room midway on the second turn and that cost him the race. Once clear he motored home like a freight train to just miss by a dwindling half length. $$$

AHIMSA: Sometimes we just need to pay attention to a jockey’s intentions. Mike Smith stuck around all day to ride this first time starter for Peter Eurton and we were rewarded with an easy win and a $9.20 payoff. It pays to pay attention.
