SANTA ANITA (opens Sunday)

DUBAI YOU X Y Z: Was making his first start against winners after a real nice maiden breaker. A little anxious early as he pulled jockey hard. Angled in on the second turn, but had to wait for some room. Got through on inside and battled to the wire. One of three noses on the line but got worst of bob and settled for show dough. This guy has a ton of upside. One to watch on SA turf.

BELLA ROJA: Back in town after trip East. Last seen up the track at Philly Park. Trainer O’Neil had this mare honed for 6 furlong turf sprint. Stormed home to win easy. Could be a force going down the SA hill.

ROBIE THE CAT: Was odds-on in this straight maiden 6 furlong turf sprint. Colt had two lengths on the rest out of the gate. Cruised home by more than six lengths. Trainer Dick Mandella looks to have a real good prospect.

SHRED THE SECRETS: First time starter was breaking from post position 10 and caught five wide dueling for the lead. Still three wide leaving backstretch and on the turn when gaining a short lead. Was caught on the line in a super effort. This guy just may love the new dirt track at SA.

TURBULENT DESCENT: Ran a huge number when breaking her maiden and confirmed the fast race with a rousing win here in the Hollywood Starlet after bobbling at the start. Stalked while down on the inside, gained the lead in midstretch and won under a hand ride by David Flores. Can’t wait to see new superstar on the dirt.

HE’S A DANCE STAR: We will see a lot of big form reversals on the new dirt SA track and some horses freak over the new surface. This guy may be one who reverses. He may have been best, but trouble cost him the race. $$$$$

MISTY CARMEL: First-time starter was 8-1 on the morning line but took plenty of action and went off 9-2. Really wanted to run in the early going but jockey took hard hold of her. She got a little rank and got into trouble into the turn. Never really got into the bit after that, finishing sixth in this 10 horse field. Misty may just love it at SA and end up a real good price.

KEEN BIDDER: In this 1 1/16 turf route Bidder was making what looked to be a winning move up the rail on the second turn but was blocked off heels into the stretch. He took up sharply and continued behind horses until midstretch. Split horses and surged late for the place money. $$$$$

ISLAND BORDEAUX: First time starter broke slow and then ducked in. Fell behind looking like he could not get into stride. Once he got it going stormed home to win going away in a nice effort. Could move up and repeat.

BEE EFF EFF: Was in a good tracking position, but got in tight and was squeezed back. Cost her the race as she ended up losing by a half length. This girl will be a solid single in her next start. $$$$$

COVER STORY: Was in from Calder for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer who does great with these types of shippers. This race was taken off the grass, but this girl still ran her heart out just missing by a neck to stable mate. Dig deep and make a nice play when you see her on the grass.

BRYAN DANIEL: Was in from Hollywood and put in a better than looked effort in this 6 furlong straight maiden race. Had the feel of the track and will be very hard to beat next time out. $$$
