SECRET OAT: One of the few Peter Miller trained horses coming off a layoff that did not fire. Was going a mile on the grass and numbers from last year made her look like a serious player. She was last until the top of the stretch when taken four wide and did not have the big late kick. Look for her to come back at a big price next time out going long on the grass. Just may pop at boxcars.
TEMPLE’S DOOR: First time starter for trainer Carla Gaines going a mile on the grass. No easy task for a first time starter, but her breeding being sired by Leroidesanimaux stuck out. This colt mowed them down coming from last to first in an eye catching move and won. This colt looks to have a big future on the grass. We will follow as he moves up the ladder. $$$$$
HUGHESY: Settled on the outside in this 11/8 turf route and remained that way into the second turn. Fanned four wide when making his move into the lane and that cost him. Kept to his task and finished willingly picking up the show dough in a real nice effort. This one looks ready to win in the very near future.
BURNS: Was on our watch list one race back. His trainer Barry Abrams finally found the answer by putting Gomez in the irons and off the pace to make one run. He overtook the lone speed and won by more than a length with these new tactics and rider. We look for a repeat.
BODIE GIRL: Was last seen running at the Oak Tree Hollywood meet last October and sent off at 55/1 breaking from the 10 post. Started OK, but then dropped back to last. She made a big late run just missing the place money by less than a length. This filly could come back and pay some big dividends next time out.
CLARKE LANE: First time in the US for trainer Simon Callaghan and was let go at almost 31-1 in this allowance race for 3yo. Was dead last until he came four wide into the stretch. Closed like a freight train just missing the win by a neck and lighting up the tote. This guy can flat out run. Look to see him in the winner’s circle next time, but there will be no 30-1 this time.
DUKE OF DOOM: Was in from Gulfstream Park and landed in the barn of Bill Morey. Sent off at .50 cents on the dollar with Russell Baze riding. The bettors must have been a little nervous as he looked beat, but dropped down to the inside and somehow got the bob on the line. This was a big effort for the Duke Of Doom, who just may come back and repeat.
DINNR WITH NIKKI C: Just did miss by a nostril in her last start. Looks to be sitting on a win. She was claimed out of this race by trainer Frank Lucarelli. Can pop first off the claim and looks to be a good one. Nice single next time out.
JENJOR: Was trying the grass for the first time and almost got there when making a big late run at the winner a furlong out. She just did get nosed for the place money while losing the entire ball of wax by less than a length. Next time going long on the grass. $$$$$
ENTRUSTMENT: Filly was coming off the layoff for trainer Paddy Gallagher and making her first start as a 2yo. On the grass for the first time, she went 11/16 and gave a huge effort to win by a length. Looks to have a lot of upside. We just may see this girl heading South to play with the big girls.
