(DEL MAR opens July 20)

MINT HUMOR: Was coming off the layoff for trainer Carla Gaines who always has a good record at Del Mar so she gave this maiden a real nice prep for the upcoming meet. Look for him in the winner’s circle next time out.

SUPER ABILITY: First time starter is the stable mate of Mint Humor and ran in the same maiden special race July 2. Showed some real good works for the race and came out running. Battled it out tooth and nail the entire six furlongs. If able to clear next time out he will be gone.

STARDUST DANCER: First time starter for trainer Doug O’Neill ran a winning race in this 30k maiden claimer but just had no shot at running down the lone speed in here. Ran a clear second, crushing the rest by almost five lengths. Won’t be a maiden for long.

AEROMON: The 16 year old bug boy E. Flores, who is still in high school in Los Angeles, got his first ride on this guy and rode him like a seasoned rider. Got him into contention and just missed beating the 7-5 chalk ridden by Martin Garcia who just out powered him. This kid can ride and looks fearless so don’t be afraid to take some shots with him when his mounts figure. May bring some prizes in at Del Mar and this maiden will be one of them. $$$

SENTIMENTAL BALLAD: Was in from the recently closed Golden Gate meet for trainer Craig Dollase and she really wanted to run. Was pulling jockey Espinoza out of the saddle, but he took hold while down on the inside mostly due to fear. Got her in tight checking off heels and again on the turn. Steadied her again when in traffic leaving the turn. She rallied again to just miss the place money by a slim neck in what amounted to a real lousy ride.

ADRIATIC MOON: Broke awkward and had trouble getting into his stride. Came four wide into the stretch and made a nice late run. Was one of four on the line for the place money and just did miss the win by a length in a much better than looked effort. He goes to trainer Dean Pederson who claimed him for $12,500. Looks like a good pick up.

BASMATI: I took a shot with this Doug O’Neill first time starter in the Station Casinos contest July 3. Was let go at 42-1. Broke sharp and battled it out, but could only hold for the show dough ($9). Has some good early speed and may be able to get away next time out with this race under his belt.

DANCE LITTLE ANGEL: Looked to be making a run on the turn when angling in, but found no room and lost all shot. This filly was claimed out of the better than looked effort. Look for a jockey change and a big run next time out.

MISS GEORGIE GIRL: This filly is just sitting on the win, she has good talent and only needs some early pace to set up her late run, she is in top form and will pop very soon, she could be a nice single next time out. $$$$$
