Breeders’ Cup Friday

Race 1

No.3 SEGWAY: Looked to have a big shot in this mile turf race, but he was bumped and steadied hard at the start. Was off last and far back. Managed to split the field, but never could get into the real racing after the early trouble. We will give him a big shot to rebound next time out at what will be a good price. $$$

Race 3

No.2 PLENNY OF HENNY: Would have won on any other day, but had the misfortune of meeting a very live Bob Baffert comebacker who decided to take off the pace. Henny still may have been best as he was in a perfect spot down on the inside. The jock, knowing he had horse underneath him, did not want to risk trouble and took him on a four wide run. Had to angle out wider for room in upper stretch as he surged late to just miss.

No.6 NORTHERN IOWA: Those who singled this 3yo in the Pomona Derby really got a bad beat as he was best. Made a three wide move in the clubhouse turn while between horses on the final bend, but got blocked behind horses at the furlong marker. Jockey Maldonado took hold and got him out late, surging at the wire to just miss in a three horse photo in a bad beat. One of the few rides Maldonado got in trouble. This guy has a ton of ability and a lot of upside. We will follow. $$$$$

Race 10

No.3 POWER FOOT: Ran a big race in the Del Mar Derby at 24/1 finishing fourth by two lengths between horses. This colt can run and will find a winning spot at Santa Anita.

No.4 SMART ELLIS: Is a much better colt than the one that ran in the Del Mar Derby. Had a horrible trip and lost any shot in the early going. We will keep an eye out for his return going long on the grass.
