Horses to Watch Alert
Race 1 No. 3 LORD VRONSKY: Wanted to run so bad, but got stuck down on the rail and was just a hand full for jockey Chantal Sutherland to handle. She had to take him up several times with no place to go. Once Chantal found room she ran his heart out but that early trouble just took too much out of him. Next time out with a clean trip. $$$
Race 6 No. 3 SIMPLY CARINA: Ran at Saratoga last July. Trainer Neil Drysdale placed her in this straight maiden race going 11/16 on the grass. She went right to the front and just did fail to hold off the 9-5 chalk by a nostril. Was more than five lengths clear of the rest. Will be very tough to beat next time out.
Race 9 No. 9 CHOKECHERYMARY: Was exiting this list when declared a nonstarter in her last race. She broke in, got bumped and had to be steadied hard in the early going. Looked like that may be it for Mary, but jockey Chantal Sutherland gathered her in nicely and made a big late run to win going away. Rewarded followers of this column with a winning price of $13.20. Will keep her on our list.
Race 10 No. 1 SARAH’S SECRET: Was very good as a 2yo running some figs that were stakes caliber. Came back in this second level allowance to make her 3yo debut and just blitzed them running a stakes caliber race. Look for big things from this filly the rest of the year for trainer Kathy Walsh. $$$$$.
No. 4 WHISPER LOUISE: Euro invader for trainer James Cassidy who can pop with these type of horses was making her first start since October of last year but this girl ran super despite being bumped at the start and being steadied hard on the wire the first time around, she came on late and finished with a flourish being a clear second beaten just 3/4 for a length by the even money chalk. $$$$$
Race 3 No. 2 CAN DO IT AGAIN: Came from the Fairgrounds for trainer Steve Specht, who doesn’t bring in many. This filly showed little or no form – winding up far back in all three of her races, including the last on the grass. Was dropping into a maiden claimer for the first time with really not much in here to beat. Got into a good stalking position and won going away. Looks like she can repeat in one of those starter allowance races.$$$
Race 9 No. 5 DAY TIME BALLET: Comebacker looked great on the track but was let go at 42-1 in the betting. Stormed down the lane to win going away. A sweet victory and could repeat at another big price.
