Santa Anita

Race 3 No. 8 SEPARATE FOREST: Was exiting our HTW list and looked very solid in here, but when coming out into the stretch was bumped hard. She had to angle in for room, but could not get up while down on the inside. This filly has some talent and we will keep her on our watch list.

Race 5 No. 7 JUST METEOR: First time starter was going down the hill, but was bred to like the grass. Was let go at almost 12-1 and I let my money go. He ran good but finished a clear third. Looked like he may have wanted to go longer. If stretched out next time out we will be playing.

Race 6 No. 6 GALLATIN’S RUN: 5yo gelding was dropping into a claiming race for the first time in his career. Trainer Mike Mitchell is a master at playing the claiming poker game and he pulled one off here. There were no claims for this easy winner. Look for the move up and repeat.

Race 9 No. 2 WAVEOFAPPLAUSE: Was pulling the jockey out of the saddle in the early going. She got in tight and had to steady hard. Came out for room on the first turn, but the jock still had a hard hold of her. Despite her saddle slipping forward, she got the lead and looked home but could not hold off fast closing Bonita Star. Was clearly second best despite the eventful trip.

No. 4 BONITA STAR: Was in from Ireland and looked to have found a real good spot in this soft allowance race going a mile on the grass. If you were logging on to and getting my daily horse selections from the West Coast would have cashed this $47.20 winner. She stormed home from last to first and blew by them at the wire.

Golden Gate

Race 4 No. 6 KATIES PAL: First timer hesitated and lost at least five lengths at the start and really had no shot. She looked to have a lot of late run but the jock took hold and did not put her under any undo pressure. Will see a big price next time out and could be sitting on a nice score. $$$
