Race 1

No. 8 SALAH CHAMP: Trainer Mike Mitchell had this one ready to run a winning race, but he was steadied hard when squeezed back at the start and lost all shot. Made a huge late run from last to finish clear second behind the 7/5 winner. Will be a solid single next time out at this level.

Race 2

No. 7 BALLARD RULER: Never could get into the race after stumbling at the start. With a clean break next time out will get there off the long layoff.

Race 3

No. 9 YODEL UP A STORM: 2yo first time starter came out running, pressing the pace from the bell. Battled it out tooth and nail to the wire losing the bob by a nostril. This filly is a runner for trainer Carla Gaines, who always seems to have a good meet at Del Mar. We will see her in the winner’s circle when this girl runs there when the meet opens. $$$

Race 4

No. 8 HUMOR ME: Was coming off the layoff for trainer Bob Baffert. Won the race with the odds on first time starter Socialbug, who went off at .50 cents on the dollar. Humor Me was not going to beat the bug but may have finished second. She hopped and tossed her head in what was an awkward start losing any shot she had. We will give her a big shot to redeem herself next time out.
