Race 5 No. 2 KATHLEEN ROSE: A filly we liked on our web page when coming off the layoff for Mike Machowsky. She was let go at 21-1 and had the lead down the lane but could not hold off the 3-1 winner. She did pay a whopping $20 to place and will be set next time out but we won’t get 21-1.

Race 9 No. 7 MISS PIPPA: There are simple reasons why some jockeys win big races. They don’t panic and can get a good feel of the pace. Jockey Mike Smith showed both attributes in this win aboard Miss Pippa, who broke awkwardly and behind the field. Mike did not panic and when it was time he unleashed her. She ran them all down at the wire in what was a huge effort. Smith fits the filly like a glove.
