SANTA ANITA
Race 6
No. 2 BROTHER PETE
Was much the best in here but had to settle for the place money. He had to wait for room leaving the second turn. Got boxed in from the upper stretch to the sixteenth marker, then split horses and surged late but lost by a neck in what was a huge effort. $$$$$

Gary Stevens was listed to ride this gelding and the race was scheduled to be run on the grass, but the rains came. It went 6 furlongs on the cushion surface with D VanDyke in the irons (no relation to who you are thinking of). Van Dyke got him home with a big four wide run and just a tap of the whip. We will be watching closely for this one to return on the grass.
Race 6
No. 5 PUBLIC POLICY
Had a horrible trip as he was blocked off of heels, bumped and steadied hard in midstretch to lose any chance he had. Was steadied again at the sixteenth pole and somehow still had some run. Got through an opening and picked up the show dough while more than three lengths clear of the rest in what was a gutsy run. $$$
