DEL MAR
RACE 4
NO. 6 CHAMPAGNE ROOM: Huge 2yo filly was making her first start going five furlongs. She ran a nice race to finish second, and will get better as the distances get longer. We would love to see her next time out going 5½ or 6 furlongs. If so, we are betting.
RACE 8
NO. 4 EXCAVATION: First time starter was going 5½ furlongs vs. Klimt. He ran on late with a very long strong stride to just miss the place by a half-length while more than 6 clear of the rest. Will be very hard to beat going 6 furlongs or longer. $$$
NO. 7 STRAIGHT FIRE: Keith and Kent Desormeaux hooked up with this 2yo colt and he ran his race but had to settle for second behind the odds-on Peter Miller winner. Straight Fire was more than five lengths clear of the rest in this eight horse field and will be one tough colt next time out. $$$
RACE 10
NO. 8 RIDEO: Was coming off a layoff for trainer Richard Mandella and took some action as the second choice in this $20k maiden claimer. He ran a nice even third and was claimed by Doug O’Neill for Slam Dunk racing. He just may be a slam dunk to wager on next time out with this nice race under his belt.
