DEL MAR
RACE 4
NO. 2 ROYAL MO
BEACH BUM, ROYAL MO: Beach Bum, a first time starter for Baffert, had his back-to-back, five furlong work pattern that signals go for his first time starters. F. Geroux was getting the ride. Somehow this colt was overlooked and stormed home to win going away by more than five lengths in a loaded field. Much to like here. Royal Mo, a second time starter for John Shirreffs, lost all chance at the start when he hesitated to be dead last in this 12 horse field. He made a strong late run to be a clear second and will be a solid single next time out. $$$$$
RACE 6
NO. 3 OFFSHORE: May have been over his head in the Zuma Beach. This was this 2yo’s second start coming off a win first out of the box for trainer Drysdale. He was far back in this mile turf race and launched a nice late bid, finding his best stride late. Was really flying at the end and would like to see him in a non-winners race going longer on the grass.
RACE 9
NO. 5 ANGEL ERIA: Was between horses in this downhill turf sprint for straight maidens and had to wait when checked off heels crossing the dirt. She was swung out for room and made a nice late finish to get up for second, missing the win by 3/4 of a length. Looks like a filly who will love a flat mile on the grass. $$$
