DEL MAR

RACE 3

NO. 1 PORTANDO AND NO. 8 THREE AY EM: Both of these runners were in from Golden Gate and has been mentioned in this column in the past, these Golden Gate runners have been doing great of late. These two finished second and third, with less than a length separating them going five furlongs on the grass. We will most likely seen them both sprinting that distance at Del Mar, where they run several of those type races.

RACE 5

NO. 8 GOLDEN NECKLACE: GOLDEN NECKLACE: This filly made a big four-wide run turning for home at a big price, she was a clear second, four lengths better than the rest in this mile turf race. She is on the improve and will be a very tough girl going long on the grass next out.

RACE 7

NO. 1 TULE FOG: Just took a horrible beat at 11-1 when losing the head bob, she battled tooth and nail in the $100k Bertrando Stakes going a flat mile. She could be wheeled back by trainer Javier Sierra before meets end as she was four lengths clear of the rest, including the 3-5 chalk.

NO. 5 THE STREET FIGHTER: This one ran to his name in this $40k optional claimer as he had to take back to last after being crowded at the start. He then was steadied hard when in tight on the second turn, losing two positions. He was taken to the inside and finished with a big rally to just miss by a half length in what was a street fighting effort to say the least.
