SANTA ANITA
RACE 1
NO. 5 MIDNIGHT CANDY: Was eased back in this mile race as she saved ground down on the inside. She stayed down on the inside and looked to be making a winning move but just could not run down the front runners. Santa Anita will be right up her alley.
RACE 5
NO. 7 JILLY: These four were 1, 2, 3, 4 in this very tough maiden race with Tapped, a very promising Tapit filly, getting up for the nose win. Jilly finished a half-length in front of Bernina Star, who was 1-1/2 ahead of Mannerly, who battled on the front end the entire race. Could be a nice key race; we will keep these 4 on our watch list.
RACE 8
NO. 9 SPOOKY WOODS: Mike Smith came in for the ride on this first-time starter for trainer Hollendorfer and this filly was just hammered at the Los Alimitos windows, going off as the 7/5 chalk in the $100k Barretts Debutante. She broke tardily and was dead last in this six horse field, but made a little late run to pick up the show dough. Hollendorfer must think he has something here and we will follow this filly, especially if Mike Smith sticks with her.
