SANTA ANITA
RACE 1
No. 2 TINA’S EXCHANGE: First-time starter for trainer Phil D’Amato was let go at almost 20/1 in this $50k maiden claimer. He broke dead last in this 10 horse field going 6½ furlongs on the dirt. Made a four wide move into the stretch and got to the front down the lane, but was nailed on the money, losing the bob by the slimmest of nostrils. No 19/1 next time but a trip to the winner’s circle. $$$
AND
No. 4 OREGON: Second time starter for trainer John Shirreffs was scheduled to go down the hill but the race was moved to the main track and he was scratched. Look for this 4yo colt when he resurfaces in a turf race. Down the hill or long, he is ready to roll.
RACE 5
No. 5 COLONIST
AMERICAN PASTIME, CASCADE KID, COLONIST, BIRD ORR BRADY: These four exit the same maiden race and we think it could turn out to be a key one. AMERICAN PASTIME won the race by four lengths and looked very special doing it first out of the box. CASCADE KID finished a solid second first out for Hollendorfer 2½ lengths clear of COLONIST, the stablemate of CASCADE KID. BIRD ORR BRADY finished fourth after breaking from post 10 and showing some moxie in his debut race for Doug O’Neill. We will be using all four when they return. $$$
RACE 9
No. 8 STORM THE HILL: After a little shower and the course listed as firm this filly, in from Gulfstream Park, landed in the barn of the red hot Peter Miller. She just blasted this crew to win by almost four lengths under a hand ride. Lots more in store for this filly. $$$
