DEL MAR

TAMING THE TIGRESS: Stumbled and was forced in at the start. Stayed down on the inside but had to swing three-wide and closed strong. This was a big effort going five furlongs for this 2-year-old.

KANDEREL: Was bumped hard at the start to be far back. Looking to get in the mix five-wide turning for home and just flying late to somehow pick up the place money in what was a big effort.

OCTOPUS: Was bumped and squeezed off at the start. He came up the rail and blasted through to pick up a very gutty win. We would like to see this one come back soon for the repeat win.

RANTANEN: 2-year-old ran huge in this five-furlong maiden race. He ran a winning race, but was not good enough to beat a well-bet first-time starter, finishing a solid second, more than three lengths clear of the rest. No mistakes next out.
