SQUARE DEAL: Battled tooth and nail form the gate in this five-furlong sprint at Los Alamitos TB but just lost the bob by the slimmest of noses. He was nine lengths clear of the rest of the 10-horse field. He will be a solid single next out at Del Mar and we would love to see him running on the turf course there going five furlongs.

ISHI: Ran a much better-than-looked third off the long layoff at Los Alamitos TB for trainer Peter Miller who was looking to use this race as a prep for something bigger at Del Mar where he was last seen winning back in November of 2017, all systems will be a go for him next out and this is another runner who we would love to see sprinting on the five-furlong Del Mar Turf course.

GIVE ME THE LUTE: Was exiting our HTW list on opening day at Del Mar and just looked great winning going a mile on the grass as he rated kindly behind the two front runners and blasted home down the lane to win going away to beat his stablemate as they clicked for a $49 exacta on our daily Del Mar selections at our GT website.

I WANT ONE: First-time starter for trainer Andrew Lerner just ran a winning race in defeat, she was hammered at the wagering windows going off at 7-5, losing by a half a length while more than two lengths clear of the rest. We hope to see this filly one more time before the meet’s end.

HONEYFROMTHESOUTH: She ran her heart out in this five-furlong turf race but just could not hold off the fast closing winner. We will be on her again next out, turf or dirt.

UNITED: Was just another winner exiting our HTW list. This gelding won like a good thing in the 1 1-8 turf route when jockey Flavien Prat steered him wide staying out of any trouble. He blasted home late to win by more than a length and this race will have him primed for a stakes race next out.
