CELLAR DOOR: Mike Smith was making a rare ride for trainer Jeff Mullins, who has been sending out live runners. This first-time starter took action at the betting window as she was sent off at 4-1, butwas very hard to load. She broke O.K., looked to be ready to launch a winning run when she had to wait behind runners in this five-furlong sprint and that cost her. Once clear, she blasted home to miss by less than a length.

UNBROKEN STAR: First-time starter in this $50,000 maiden claimer, was a hot commodity at the windows for trainer Ron Ellis. He broke slow and was taken out under a very confident ride by jockey Joe Talamo who swung him four wide and stormed home under just a few taps of the whip to win going away. He was claimed for the $50k by Mike Puype who will have him spotted for a repeat win.

ANTIGONE-TEXT DONT CALL: These two finished within a half length of each other in this maiden mile turf race for 2-year-old fillies with Antigone finishing second when bet down and having a troubled trip and Text Don’t Call finishing just a half length behind her at 19-1. We would love to see them both come back in the same race next out. It will be exacta box time.

GRECIAN FIRE: We mentioned jockey Mike Smith above and now we catch him riding this gelding in a very rare ride for trainer Keith Desormeaux, who would have normally had his brother Kent riding in this $150,000 California Dreamin’ Stakes. Well big race Mike got the job done in a very heady ride.

UNICORN-CATCH THE EYE: We look again at two runners exiting the same last race. These two maiden fillies were going 1 1/16 on the grass, with Unicorn finishing second despite a horrible trip and Catch the Eye finishing fourth after getting squeezed off at the start. This is another race that we would love to see both runners come back next out, another exacta box we say.

NOTHING BUT HEAT: Was last seen finishing second here at Del Mar back in August of 2018. This filly came back running in this mile turf race but just had no shot at running down the lone speed. She was a very game second and looks to be sitting on the win next out.
