LOS ALAMITOS

TULE FOG: Just took a horrible beat at 11-1 when losing the head bob, she battled tooth and nail in the $100k Bertrando Stakes going a flat mile. She could be wheeled back by trainer Javier Sierra before meets end as she was four lengths clear of the rest, including the 3-5 chalk.

SUNSET SEVEN: Another who just ran way too good in a losing effort, finishing second at 21-1 while more than three lengths clear of the rest in this mile starter allowance race. We hope he can come back one more time before the LA TB meet’s end for trainer David Hofmans. If not, we will be looking for him at Del Mar.

UNION STATION: Bobbled at the start in this 1-mile, $20k maiden claimer, he took back and settled down on the inside, was swung out on the second turn and made a big four- wide run down the lane finishing a clear second in what was a top effort. He looks to be sitting on the maiden score.

VERIFIED: This Keith Desormeaux-trained maiden 2-yeasr-old would have won on any other day but had the misfortune of hooking the 4-5 first-time starter, Schrodinger. Verified ran his race to finish second, just 1¼ lengths behind the winner and eight in front of the rest. He will be a solid single next out, especially if sent longer.

LA PURISSIMA: Named after the Spanish Mission in Lompoc, Calif., this $20k maiden ran a winning race but just could not run down the odds-on lone speed. She was a clear second, seven lengths in front of the rest and will be very hard to beat next out at this level.
