DESMOND DOSS: Maiden was going a mile on the grass for trainer Phil D’Amato, who has a good string of grass runners heading into the Del Mar meet and this one just blew away the others in this mile turf race to win by almost two lengths under a heady ride by Joe Talamo. He should be able to move up and beat winners.

SUPER PATRIOT: One of the few runners in the Bob Baffert barn that runs for a tag on the grass He just missed by a nostril in this mile turf race for a claiming tag of $35k, and was claimed by the good turf trainer Richard Baltas who also retained part ownership. He will have him spotted for the win next out.

PORTANDO-THREE AY EM: Both of these runners were in from Golden Gate and has been mentioned in this column in the past, these Golden Gate runners have been doing great of late. These two finished second and third, with less than a length separating them going five furlongs on the grass. We will most likely seen them both sprinting that distance at Del Mar, where they run several of those type races.

PLAYA CHICA: This filly just ran a super race while just failing to get up on the line at almost 7-1. We won’t get that price next out but we will see her in the winner’s circle going long on the grass at this $25k level or higher. She will be a solid single in the picks.

NOTE: Santa Anita’s last day will be on June 23 with Los Alamitos’ thoroughbred met opening on Friday, June 28.

TAYLOR AND BURTON: Perfectly named runner for the Del Mar meet, this filly was last seen back in 2017 running at Del Mar. She came off the long layoff in this five-furlong grass sprint for straight maidens and ran a solid second. With this race under her belt she will be set for the maiden breaker next out.

NOTE: Santa Anita’s last day will be on June 23 with Los Alamitos’ thoroughbred met opening on Friday, June 28.
