SANTA ANITA
QUEEN BEE TO YOU: Broke slow and was angled in looking to save ground, she split runners on the second turn when making a big run but had to wait when steadied off heels in mid-stretch. She then swung out for room surging late but had to settle for show dough. No mistakes next time out with a better trip.
STUBBINS: Colt just broke his maiden by a nostril going down the hill in what was just a great effort up the rail showing how game he was in a 12-horse field. He may have found a home on this tricky downhill turf course.
FALCONE: It took a few races for this colt to finally break his maiden but break it he did going 1 1/8 miles on the grass, drawing away down the lane. These types have a way of coming right back and repeating against winners. He will be hard to beat next out going-long on the grass.
VEZUCHIY: First-time starter broke slow but settled and chased the pace. He looked to be making a nice move but had to be steadied hard at a spill leaving the hill in this downhill turf sprint. He had to switch out into the stretch but lost his momentum finishing a much better-than-looked fifth.
OMAHA BEACH: Just an unlucky runner. He battled tooth-and-nail in this 1-mile dirt race for straight maidens but was just out-gamed by a half-length, finishing second eight lengths clear of the rest. He is sitting on the maiden score and we will single next time out.
AIR VICE MARSHAL: Just ran his heart out when going head-to-head with the eventual winner, finishing second just a head behind while almost three lengths clear of the rest. We will see this one in the winners’ circle in the very near future
