I’m nuts about Pink Box Doughnuts

Is it really ok to write a food review about doughnuts? Well, considering it’s my column and I like doughnuts, then we’re on it!

I have not seen a doughnut take off like this since back in Pittsburgh when I got a first look at a Krispy Kreme store. On the day of the grand opening there were literally dozens of people waiting in line to enter.

Yes, some people camped out like they were waiting for tickets to a rock concert. I really wish the story was made up but, sadly, it is not. It’s true.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love me some doughnuts, but I’ll never camp out in line for them.

Similar to Pittsburgh, Las Vegas has a doughnut shop that is growing very quickly and once people try them they are hooked.

The place here is Pink Box Doughnuts, which started its first store at 7531 W. Lake Mead Blvd. This store is open 24/7, which is great if you have a late night craving for a doughnut.

This past weekend I had friends in town from Pittsburgh and we enjoyed a great dinner downtown. When the waitress asked if we wanted to order dessert I passed knowing there was some place else to try.

Off to Pink Box Doughnuts we went, and once out of the car you could smell the aroma of fresh baked doughnuts in the parking lot. I had been telling my friends about the Fat Elvis doughnut.

Once inside a look of panic filled my face, as they didn’t have any Fat Elvis in the case. Elvis had left the building! It’s one of Pink Box’s most popular doughnuts.

When it was confirmed they were sold out, the girl working behind the counter saw my disappointment and said if I had a few minutes she could make me one. I asked if she had time to make six since we all wanted one. As busy as they were on a Sunday morning, she did.

It’s that kind of friendly customer service that has seen Pink Box Doughnuts grow to three stores with a fourth opening in Henderson on Eastern Ave. real soon. Currently their other locations are in Town Square off of Las Vegas Blvd. (just 5 minutes away from me and way too close) and at 4350 S. Durango Dr.

I pass by the Durango store every day I’m on-air doing the Pregame.com First Preview radio show. I can’t escape these tasty delights.

Here’s the list of some of the doughnuts they make. They have all the classics, but for me it’s the gourmet doughnuts that will have you coming back for more.

Fat Elvis is a doughnut filled with a Peanut Butter filling chocolate icing and topped with a glazed banana. Trust me on this one, it’s good.

They have a banana crème pie doughnut, a Pink Velvet (their name for a red velvet doughnut) that is amazing. If you are a fan of bacon they have a bacon maple doughnut.

Also a hit is the tasty apple fritter if you’re feeling like a more traditional doughnut. The Buttermilk bar doughnut is also a great choice, especially if lucky enough to get those while they’re still hot.

The hardest part of going to Pink Box is trying to decide which doughnuts to choose. But, no matter your choice, you won’t be disappointed.

I give Pink Box Doughnuts a rating of 3.75 Forks out of 4, and to Pink Box Doughnuts – as the King would say, “Thank you, very much.”
