With the stakes set extremely high – the winner of the Indiana-Washington game will scrape through into the playoffs with the eighth seed, while the loser will face an end to their season – the anticipation has built up heavily. The Pacers have been inconsistent this season, despite winning the Hornets game in a blowout. Their defence has been particularly unreliable. This will likely cause problems against the Wizards team which has gotten its attack firing on all cylinders, with Russel Westbrook and Bradley Beal likely to cause massive headaches for the Pacers. Meanwhile, the Wizards faced a sinking season but managed to recover spectacularly under the leadership of their two stars. The Washington side have won 13 of their last 16 matchups and will fancy this last opportunity to secure a playoff spot.

It’ll be an interesting match-up to watch, with both teams in resurgent form and having one eye on the playoffs. Between the two fallen giants, both have endured disappointing regular season campaigns affected strongly by Covid-19 and personnel issues, and neither will be envying the playoff-series against the first-seeded 76ers, destined for the eighth seed. But one imagines that neither team will particularly care – better to be in the post-season with a snowball’s shot at the title than to be going home after 82.

Between the two, the Wizards will surely be favoured on current form. Despite injury struggles, Westbrook and Beal remain fully capable of dominating over the Pacers, whose roster continues to be stricken with injuries to vital players. Nevertheless, anything can happen in the playoffs – or the play-ins – so stay tuned to catch the result.
