Inter Miami Leagues Cup Roster, Injuries, and Betting News

Former FC Barcelona and Argentina national team coach Gerardo Martino was recently appointed as Inter Miami coach, as many reports suggested would happen after Messi announced his MLS move. “Tata” Martino coached Messi at Barcelona during the 2013-14 season and then from 2014-16 with the national team, and he is endeared by Messi for leading his boyhood club in Argentina, Newell’s Old Boys, to a championship in 2013.
Martino also has MLS experience, taking Atlanta United to an MLS Cup title in 2018. He is still beloved by Atlanta fans, and one of the stars of that championship team, Josef Martinez, features in the Inter Miami forward corps.
Joining Messi in Florida are former Barcelona stars Sergio Busquets, who has played two games with Messi already, and Jordi Alba. The latter is on the Leagues Cup roster and could make his debut Wednesday night as Miami inches closer to its first international cup.
Roster
Josef Martinez and Leonardo Campana are two proven MLS goalscorers who will figure to benefit from the arrival of the former Barcelona contingent. Perhaps overlooked is Finnish forward Robert Taylor who, like Messi, also scored twice in the previous Leagues Cup game, a 4-0 victory, against Atlanta.
Miami also counts on 2022 MLS All-Star and Canada national team defender Kamal Miller leading the back line with the U.S. men’s national team and former Newcastle United right-back DeAndre Yedlin. Adding Alba to the mix, whenever it happens, will make Miami’s defense perhaps the most experienced in the league.
Young goalkeeper Drake Callender is the man between the sticks and a player who started receiving call-ups to the United States men’s national team prior to Messi’s arrival. Miami continues making signings, although only Alba is expected to be introduced into the lineup while other reinforcements are more likely to debut in the MLS re-start later this month.

Orlando City Leagues Cup Roster, Injuries, and Betting News
Orlando City, at least until a new team is crowned in September, is the reigning Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup champions. One of the expected playoff contenders out of the Eastern Conference, the team is led by experienced MLS coach Oscar Pareja.
Since arriving in Orlando, the Colombian tactician has brought on-field success to a club that previously lured big stars like Brazilians and Real Madrid alumni Kaka and Júlio Baptista but could not put together the results to match the gravitas of those players. Pareja led the team to its first playoff appearance and championship.
Thanks to a 1-1 tie with Houston and a 3-2 win over Mexican club Santos Laguna, Orlando finished top of their group in this Leagues Cup. Both matches came at home but the rivalry nature of this encounter gives the Lions a chance on the road.
Roster
Young forward Duncan McGuire has been one of the revelations for Orlando in the two Leagues Cup games, scoring against both Houston and Santos. He’s priced at +280 and, given his current form, he is worth a look.
Uruguayan midfielder Mauricio Pereyra is one of the stars of Orlando City and a player that can create a special play. He’s priced at +900 and is another player to consider if the visiting team is looking to spoil the Messi celebration for their Florida rivals.
Argentine Martín Ojeda is the team’s leader in assists but is capable of scoring goals as well. Considering this will be a game heavily followed in his home country, it’s not out of the question to think he’ll strive for a big game.
Injuries
Out: Abdi Salim (Left Knee)

Inter Miami vs. Orlando City Prediction
This will be a memorable rivalry encounter since it’s Messi’s first with Inter Miami against Orlando. It will be more special if Orlando makes a game of it and pulls the upset.
This is one that certainly has some animosity off the field, with Orlando City fans suspected to have vandalized one of the recent Messi murals that have popped up in South Florida. The mural has since been repainted, but Miami fans hope Messi and Co. take apart Orlando with the same ease they did Atlanta.
One player that has expressed his desire to face Orlando is Josef Martinez. He certainly rose to the occasion in rivalry games against Orlando during his playing days with Atlanta and now looks to continue being the villain against the Purple side.
