I knew something was up when I looked at my Twitter feed the last few days and saw nothing but hockey players working out, playing in scrimmages and there was talk about this rookie and that rookie and video of Kaapo Kakko scoring this sick goal in a tournament in Michigan.

It may be the second week of September. Everyone’s focus is seemingly on football, and in some cases, myself included, on baseball. But come Sunday, my focus is going to shift to the NHL.

Crazy, huh?

The first preseason game is Sunday at T-Mobile Arena as the Vegas Golden Knights host Arizona. Before you know it, it’ll be Oct. 2 and the Knights will be opening the season against San Jose. And as our NHL columnist Danny Webster astutely pointed out in his column above, the NHL apparently does have a sense of humor, warped as it may be.

We’ve beefed up our hockey coverage here at Gaming Today. In addition to Danny’s weekly NHL column, Nick Pellegrino will be back with his, ahem, entertaining style of writing. Nick will appear every other week in support of Danny’s weekly endeavor.

If you are a GT subscriber, and I hope many of you are, we’re going to be providing additional content on our website. We’ll be covering every VGK home game providing postgame analysis courtesy of yours truly. We’re trying to provide more content and more relevant stories and be a bit more opinionated online. You may have noticed that Sunday if you read my account of the Arkansas State-UNLV football game.

We’re also going to do more boxing and MMA coverage as well as UNLV basketball home games. These won’t be lengthy pieces even though we have infinite space on the Internet. But many of you read us on your phone or tablet and frankly, you’re not likely to stay with it beyond seven or eight paragraphs.

It’s a changing world. We get it. And even an old dog like myself has to be willing to learn new tricks now and then. So after every home Golden Knights game, you’ll get my take on what happened at the T that evening. You should be in and out of the piece in a minute, maybe two if you read slowly.

There’s plenty to dissect in the weeks ahead and we’ll get to all of it. I hope you’ll be a regular visitor to our website —, and click on to our hockey page and join us. I promise it will be worth your while.
