This week, I got to try a brand-new restaurant at Town Square as Big Whiskey’s American Restaurant & Bar just opened at 6587 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
As the name would suggest, the restaurant theme centers around whiskey. But there’s bourbon and scotch as well. Can’t make up your mind as to what to drink? Try a flight taster. Big Whiskey offers the following tastings – Bourbon Road, To Rye or Not to Rye, Oh Canada, Jack & Jim, Irish Strong and the Flight of the Month. Each flight contains four samplings of whiskeys, scotch, bourbon or four different ryes. The list of offerings is pretty impressive.
For me, it’s all about the food as I’m there to eat and catch a game on TV. There are over 20 flat screen TV’s throughout the bar area so you can watch the game you want.
I made two separate trips the first with my wife and the second by myself. On the first trip we started with an appetizer. Going with our waitress’ suggestion we tried the Buffalo Chicken Wontons. Heidi was spot on with her recommendation as the Wontons were filled with their Buffalo Chicken Crab dip and then sprinkled with crumbled blue cheese.
These were so good. Trust me, order them and you will thank me later.
For my entrée I went with the Rick House Ribeye. It was a 12-oz. ribeye topped with Big Whiskey’s signature steak butter. I enjoyed my steak, but I have to admit I enjoyed what Lori ordered better.
Lori had the Sriracha Chicken Tacos. There was three Tacos served with refried beans, Spanish rice and chips and salsa. She could only finish two of the tacos, so I was the lucky recipient of Taco No. 3 and it was so good.
I enjoyed my first visit so much that I went back on Saturday to chill out and watch a few college basketball games with some food and a cold drink.
This time I started with the Triple Dip which was a big plate of tortilla chips and three different dips. They had Buffalo Chicken Dip, White Queso Spinach Dip and Salsa. It’s a great starter and a good way to just munch on something while watching games.
But if I’m going to watch games, I feel it’s a must to have wings. They have 14 different sauces and three dry rubs. The wings were good size and cooked the way I like — crispy.
I tried their Big Whiskey Original Buffalo. This sauce was more on the sweet side on my next visit I would probably go with a straight buffalo sauce wing.
I didn’t save room for dessert so I can’t comment on any of the desserts, but the table next to mine had the Brownie Skillet which looked amazing. That will be on my list for my next visit.
The wait staff is extremely friendly and attentive. The portions were big, and the prices were very reasonable. I give Big Whiskey’s 3.75 Forks.
