I have always said a race and sports book is just that, but after visiting the new Cantor layout at the Venetian all I can say is WOW!
It’s spectacular, just awesome to the eye. A must see. I will leave it at that.
Sometimes when betting horses or sports you just need to keep plugging away. When I worked at the Stardust we had a very successful bettor with the nickname of “Blackie” who stopped by to put some cash in his phone account, which was on empty.
As I sign his receipt he mentions going real bad. I ask why he doesn’t pack it in for a bit? Blackie looks at me with puzzlement saying it can turn around anytime; he will just cut the bets a little until it does.
I always remembered that and have taken his attitude to my play. I have been betting these 10 team parlays all year, starting with $10. Here at GT we put in a buck each and play one every week. Two weeks ago we went 8-2 and this past week our first game was Friday when Syracuse plus the points went down in a blaze of glory.
I usually don’t make another one but, remembering the words of Blackie, made another for just $3 dollars. Low and behold here it is! So keep plugging away as you never know when things will turn around. Just don’t chase that money; you can step back and go slow but never give up.
Last week I went 5-2-1 with my college GT selections and 2-1 in the pros as I have really got these NFL teams zeroed in. Let’s get going with this week’s selections.
NCAA Friday
Okla St. -27 at Iowa St.: What person in their right mind would bet against the high octane Cowboys from Stillwater? Well, I have been accused of not being in my right mind on occasion. The Cowboys just want to win with no injuries and the Sooners coming up in two weeks. Delay this, the spread will rise. IOWA ST.
NCAA Saturday
Minn +15 at N’western: The Wildcats have won and covered three straight and are looking for a bowl game as they continue their good run. NORTHWESTERN.
Wisconsin -14 at Illinois: Usually I don’t like to lay points on the road in this conference, or any in fact, but the not so Fighting Illini have gone south for the winter. Their offense is averaging just 10½ points in their last four, losing all and covering just one. WISCONSIN.
Maryland +11 at Wake: Must continue to bet against the Terrapins who have lost six straight with just one cover in that span. The Demon Deacons try for win No. 6. WAKE FOREST.
Texas Tech +17 at Missouri: The Red Raiders are another team we will keep betting against as they have really gone south after huge upset win at Oklahoma. This will be a double edge sword for Mizzu who looks for revenge from last year’s 24-17 loss in Lubbock. MISSOURI.
Colorado St. +34 at TCU: This is one of my favorite plays, very similar to the bet against LSU last week. TCU comes off the huge win at Boise. The game was originally scheduled for Fort Worth but moved to Boise when the Frogs announced they were leaving the Mountain West. That got their blood boiling. Can’t see them getting up for this game. COLORADO ST.
California +21 at Stanford: It is very difficult to regroup after your first loss this late in the season. The points are the way to go. CALIFORNIA.
BC +24½ at Notre Dame: Just don’t see the Irish covering in this game. The Eagles don’t score many, but they can play some good defense. A turnover here and there will get them the cover. BOSTON COL.
USC +15½ at Oregon: This is my favorite game of the week pitting a real good Trojans team against a real good Ducks team coming off a huge win at Stanford. USC should have beaten Stanford and will get a big shot here to avenge last year’s 53-32 drubbing in LA. USC/OVER
Boise St. -17 at San Diego St.: Boise not up to full force and, coming off first loss, will be hard pressed to get the cover here. SAN DIEGO ST.
NFL SUNDAY
I have three games this week:
Cowboys -7½ over Skins. I will continue to bet against the low scoring Redskins. Use Dallas as a key in your teasers.
Rams -2½ over Seahawks. Seattle comes off a huge win over the Ravens.
Bears -4 over Chargers. Two teams going in opposite directions. Bears have won and covered four straight, while Chargers are 0-4 SU/ATS in their last four.
