NFL Passing Yards Leader: Patrick Mahomes (+450, FanDuel)

It’s hard to believe Patrick Mahomes has only led the NFL in passing yards once, and it came last season. Ignoring his rookie season, where he only started one game, Mahomes is averaging 4,791 passing yards per season.

Since 2000, Mahomes’ average passing yards per season would have won the league passing yard leader eight times, and his numbers are dragged down by a few injuries earlier in his career. Since becoming the full-time starter in Kansas City, the two-time MVP has also led the league in yards per game twice, and Kansas City has thrown the ball more than anyone since 2018.

You cannot account for injuries, a surprise season, or any other factor that would limit Mahomes from repeating as the passing yards champ, making this a tough bet. However, FanDuel offers excellent odds on Mahomes leading the NFL in passing yards, and it is well worth a play.

Patrick Mahomes O/U 4675.5 Passing Yards in 2023: Over (-110, BetMGM)

Sticking with Mahomes, BetMGM has set Over/Under for quarterback’s passing yards this season. As mentioned above, Mahomes has more passing yards than any other quarterback since 2018, and his average by season since he became the starter is well over this number.

Since 2020, the Chiefs have been in the top 5 in passing attempts per game in every season. Although they have seemingly found their guy at running back, Kansas City runs through Mahomes, which means you will get more attempts than most to rack up the yardage.

The only time Mahomes did not go over this number as a starter was in 2019, when he only played 14 games. Coming off what was considered a season-ending injury in the moment, Mahomes was not as sharp down the stretch, but he still led Kansas City to a Super Bowl and passed for over 4,000 yards.

Obviously, there is little value with this pick, but there is no reason to believe that Kansas City will decrease its number of passes per game, and Mahomes should easily go over this number.

Isiah Pacheco O/U 5.5 Rushing Touchdowns: Over (-115, Caesars Sportsbook)

The Chiefs’ undrafted rookie out of Rutgers, Isiah Pacheco, took over the starting running back role and was money for them throughout the season, including their run to the Super Bowl. In 11 starts last season, Pacheco rushed for five touchdowns on 170 attempts, and in the postseason, he only scored once, but it came in the Super Bowl.

Pacheco will be the starting back coming into the season, which means he will get more opportunities than he did last season. While he is still recovering from a torn labrum he suffered during the season, the fact that he was so good for Kansas City with a potentially catastrophic injury makes us feel even better about Pacheco’s rushing touchdown prop.

Kansas City is running with some new faces on the offensive line, but this is still one of the most explosive offenses in football, and that will give shorter fields for Pacheco to score on.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling O/U 4.5 Receiving Touchdowns: Over (+100, Caesars Sportsbook)

With the departure of JuJu Smith-Schuster in the offseason, the Chiefs are looking for a new top receiver.

Of course, Travis Kelce is and will always be viewed as the top-receiving target on the team, but the wide receiver room is pretty bare. Outside of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, there is a lot of youth in this room. Look for Mahomes to rely on Valdes-Scantling’s experience playing with Aaron Rodgers, a similar “flashy-gunslinger” quarterback, to fill a large hole in this offense.

For his entire career, Valdes-Scantling has been a solid deep threat. He led the NFL in yards per reception in 2020 (20.9), and with Kansas City last season, he ranked sixth (16.5). He has also received the most targets per game in his career with the Chiefs, and in 18 games played over the last two seasons, he has five touchdowns.

If he can stay on the field this year, look for him to have a big season and rack up the touchdown receptions. At +100 odds, Caesars Sportsbook gives you a great number to take before the season starts.
