I really have not talked about the NFL much this season but will pen a few lines this week before we get to some plays.

I have always voiced my opinion that a good extra point kicker or field goal kicker could go a long way if they wanted to play football but were not big enough or fast enough to play other positions. If they were real good they might make it to the NFL and be set for life while avoiding major injuries.

The NFL set a record this past weekend, not for attendance, which is down, not for TV ratings, which are down, but for missed extra points. There was a record 12 missed extra points this past weekend by kickers who are paid millions of dollars to just get out there and kick a 30 yard extra point. There could be a lot of openings down the road, so you moms and dads out there, when you are Christmas shopping this coming black Friday, make sure you pick up a kicking tee and get them practicing.

It’s been a very tough handicapping football year for me here at GT but Thanksgiving is this Thursday and I am thankful for the nice emails telling me it will turnaround. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

College Football

Friday, November 25

TOLEDO +9.5 at Western Michigan: Huge game here as the 9-2 Rockets travel to Kalamazoo to take on the undefeated Western Michigan Broncos. Last year Toledo covered when getting +7.5 and we note one of the two losses by Toledo was by two points at BYU. This is a must take! TOLEDO.

Cincinnati +21 at TULSA: The Bearcats have been awful this year and in their last four games we can say terrible, as they have averaged just 6.5 points a game. Tulsa looks for revenge from last year’s 49-38 drubbing in Cincy. Lay the wood; this looks like blow out city as the Golden Hurricane notches their ninth victory on the road to a bowl game. TULSA.

Boise State -9 at AIR FORCE: No blue carpet and Boise has covered just three times this season with one push. The Falcons have been scoring in bunches and will take Boise to the limit as they look to beat them for the third straight year. AIR FORCE.

Saturday, November 26

East Carolina +18 at TEMPLE: The Pirates from Greenville have covered only two times this year while the Owls have won and covered five in a row, quietly going 8-3 as they look for win No. 9 and a nice bowl bid. Head coach Matt Rhule will not call off the dogs in this their final game of the regular season. TEMPLE.

Michigan State +12 at PENN STATE: The 9-2 Nittany Lions in serious revenge mood from last year’s 55-16 loss in East Lansing. Penn State has gone 6-0 SU and ATS in their last six games, including a win over Ohio State, and they catch the Spartans off titanic effort last week vs. Ohio State. PENN STATE.

Kansas +26 at KANSAS STATE: Say it ain’t so… But it is, as the Jayhawks actually got a Big 12 win last week beating Texas. Yes, Texas, coached by Charlie Strong, the highest paid headcoach in college football. The Wildcats play their last home game of the season as they go on the road next week. They have gone 11-0 ATS after a double digit win and playing a team coming off a SU and ATS win. Lay the wood here. KANSAS STATE.

UTAH +10.5 at Colorado: As much as I love this Colorado team we must take the points with the UTES following the 30-28 upset by Oregon last week in Salt Lake. Utah has rebounded every game after a loss and we note they have gone 8-0 as a dog when coming off a SU and ATS loss, then playing team looking for revenge. Take the points. UTAH.

Florida +7 at FLORIDA ST.: Many picked the Seminoles to win the National Championship this year but not so. Both teams have great defenses but the “Noles” have the offense to win and cover this game and they also got a scheduling break as Florida was supposed to play Presbyterian last week but got stuck with LSU in what was a real battle. FLORIDA STATE.

MICHIGAN +6.5 at Ohio State: In the game of the week I will get my friends back in Columbus hot at me again as I opt to take the revenge-minded Wolverines, who have had this game marked since last year’s embarrassing 42-13 loss in Ann Arbor. This one could be much like the Wisconsin game and go into OT, with the winner coming away with a field goal. Must take the point here, and don’t be afraid to spend the extra ten cents and by it up to +7. MICHIGAN.

Notre Dame +17 at USC: If someone told you you could take +17 in this game before the season started you would have gone to the bank. The Irish are cooked while at this point in the season the Trojans could give Alabama all they want.  USC has won and covered five in a row and is rolling, and also looking for revenge from the 41-31 loss last year in South Bend. USC.

Have a great turkey day and be thankful we all live in the good ole USA. We all are walking around lucky to just live here.
