Recently I was invited to a special tasting of the new spring menu at Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar. There are two Lazy Dog locations in Las Vegas, one in Downtown Summerlin and one at 6509 Las Vegas Blvd., S. at Town Square.
This was my first trip to the Town Square location, which opened last year. The new menu has several interesting items and after getting to sample so many I just don’t know which one I will order because there was so many that I liked.
The first item we tried was the Grizzly Fries. These were potato wedges with crispy bacon, fried sweety drop peppers, smoked paprika and their house made secret sauce. it was a great dish for sharing as an appetizer.
Next up we got to try their new Queso Dip made with Jack and Cheddar cheese, queso blanco, pickled jalapenos, pimentos, cilantro black beans and hand-cut tortilla chips. This was another great dish to share or munch on if you are sitting in the bar watching a game.
One of my wife’s favorite items at the tasting was their Street Corn Wheels. The combination of lime, garlic, queso blanco, tajin and cilantro was amazing. Trust me, you will love the Street Corn Wheels.
Lazy Dog also has two new flatbreads on the Spring menu. First we tried the BBQ Chicken Crisp, which was a creation of chicken, house made BBQ sauce, smoked paprika, red onions, sweety drop peppers, Mozzarella, Havarti and cilantro.
Next was their Blistered Heirloom Tomato Crisp, which had fresh tomatoes, pomodoro tomato sauce, feta, Mozzarella, Romano and basil. Both were good but my favorite of the two was the BBQ Chicken Crisp.
Next we tried some of the new entrée items. The first was the Bison Burger. They get the bison meat from Durham Ranch in Wyoming. The bison are all natural grass fed. The burger came with Havarti cheese, caramelized onion and bacon jam, field greens, tomato and mayo in a brioche-style bun. This was a very tasty burger.
We then tried the Slow-Braised Pork Shoulder served with roasted salsa, cilantro black beans and stone ground flour tortillas.
The final entrée was the Fried Chicken Dinner. Talk about comfort food, this is it. Hand dipped buttermilk chicken, red skin mashed potato with roasted sweet corn wheels. This was my wife’s favorite entrée and I liked it as well.
They have a few new desserts and the one we tasted was simply amazing. The White Chocolate Pretzel Cheesecake had gooey caramel, house made white chocolate and sea salt bark topped with whip cream. Save room for this dessert.
They have several new fruity and refreshing summer cocktails on the bar menu as well. My favorite was the Strawberry Bourbon Shrub, which was made with Maker’s Mark, strawberries, peach nectar and soda.
If you haven’t been to a Lazy Dog before they are upscale casual dining at its best. And if you want to bring your four-legged family member the outdoor patio is dog friendly. They even has a dog menu. Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar has reasonable prices and huge portions. I give it a rating of 3.75 forks.
