Getting Rich with Saber by Richard Saber |

What a week. All I heard was, who do you like, and I would say the sixth horse in the ninth race; no, who do you like in the Super Bowl?

When I would tell them who I liked they would say how can you like that side.

It reminded me of the old race track movie, “Let It Ride,” when Richard Dreyfuss went around asking everyone who they liked in a certain race and he would eliminate that horse until he was left with just the one that no one picked.

I am going with the Saints and believe it or not the under, as I can find not one single human being that likes the under.

I do believe that the grass will slow both teams down and thus lower the score.

So Saints and under are my selections and I also played a few props. I took the Saints +3½ +130; I took the Saints to score first +135; I bet that there would be a safety in the game at 8-1.

I also bet that there would be a 2 point conversion at +325 and I bet that no team would have a lead of more than 16½ points -110. There are a million and one props out there and if you are staying home and having your own big Super Bowl party you can make some small bets and have a great time.

This weekend there are plenty of big things going on all over town. The “M” resort will be dealing the Super Bowl with live betting action from the start to the finish and you can believe me there will be a ton of betting opportunities for some good bets.

I was over at the Tropicana this past week visiting with Chuck Esposito the new Casino Operations Manager. Chuck ran the Race and Sports book operation for Caesars Palace and its sister properties when it really was Caesars Palace.

In his new position he had some very exciting things to show me including the new Poker Room and Race and Sports book that will be located right off the Strip with the target date before next year’s football season.

For the Super Bowl this weekend one of my all-time favorites Paul Hornung will be there throughout the weekend and will be offering a free autographed picture (while they last) in the Celebration Lounge between noon and 2 p.m. on Sunday prior to the Big Game.

The once magnificent Las Vegas Tropicana will be undertaking a $125 million dollar transformation which will take it back to a main destination spot in Vegas as every room and suite will be upgraded as will the casino and the world famous pool area.

There will be several new top class restaurants. Knowing Chuck Esposito, Paul Hornung is just a small start at some big things to come down the road for the Tropicana.

While on the Strip I stopped by and visited Dave Snock at Planet Hollywood and was just startled to find out that he liked the Saints and he told me he will keep the line lower than any other Vegas book on the Colts; Dave even predicted the score to be Saints 42 Colts 28; now that is really going out on the limb.

Dave told me that they will be having a meet and greet at the Planet between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. with NFL players Christian Okoye of the K.C. Chiefs and Anthony Miller former wide receiver with the Chargers. Just come in and make a bet on the Super Bowl or one of over 250 props that they have up.

How do you become a successful gambler? That has been a question going around for a long time. The legendary Bob Martin once told me that behind every successful gambler was a rich wife.

This past week Station Casinos race book had a big twin Q carryover worth $6,625 and a regular bettor at Palace Station by the name of “Post Time” Tony Cama hit it with a $4 ticket. Now you must understand Tony gets shut out a lot because he never seems to know when the race is going off, but this twin Q was his high point as after he collected his money, there were several winners who split the pool. As he was heading out the door he reached into his pocket and found another $4 twin Q ticket that he had bet and forgot about, so he ended up hitting it two times! That is one way you can become a successful gambler.

Trainer Bill Mott sent out a 3yo colt by the name of Drosselmeyre this past Sunday in a level one Allowance race at Gulfstream Park and what a performance this was. Put him on your list of up and comers on the Kentucky Derby trail as you will see him in one of the major preps in his next start.
