But watch out for that nasty, tough gristle

I am used to losing and don’t mind losing on the square, but when the zebra’s out-and-out rob you, now that gets my blood boiling. Boston College had it put to them, not by USC, but by the lousy officiating; or was it lousy, you decide.

All I know is that the people who were watching the game around me and the broadcasters knew the right call but the zebras, even after watching it in the booth, still could not get it right.

Then on Sunday the Colts Coach “lyin” Jim Caldwell says he is going to play his starters as he wants to go undefeated, but then takes them out in the second half and all hell breaks loose as the Jets roll to a 29-15 win, shutting out the mighty Colts in the second half.

You could tell something was up as the bettors kept hammering the Jets and the line dropped from the Colts -5 to the Colts -3 at game time, someone knew Caldwell was going to take his starters out. So much for the big meeting between the bubble bursting Saints and the Colts.

Let’s get to the meaty bowl games coming up this week.

Wednesday, Dec. 30

Humanitarian Bowl

Bronco Stadium-Boise Idaho

Bowling Green -2 total 68 vs. Idaho: Home field advantage goes to the Vandals but after starting the season with seven straight covers they failed to cover a game in their last five, while the Green Falcons won and covered their last four. BOWLING GREEN -2

Holiday Bowl

Qualcomm Stadium-San Diego

Nebraska +1 total 40 vs. Arizona: Huskers missed by one tick of upsetting Texas and Arizona beat USC in their last game and just failed in double overtime beating Oregon. ARIZONA -1

Thursday, Dec. 31

Texas Bowl

Reliant Stadium-Houston

Air Force +6½ total 52½ vs. Missouri: The Navy Offense went away the last part of the season. MISSOURI -6½

Armed Forces Bowl

Amon Carter Stadium-Fort Worth

Air Force +4 total 63 vs. Houston: This is the same matchup as last year’s Armed Forces Bowl when Houston won the game 34-28; the Falcons have a little revenge in mind. AIR FORCE +4

Sun Bowl

Sun Bowl Stadium – El Paso

Stanford +9 total 56 vs. Oklahoma: Sooners 0-3 SU and ATS in their last three bowl appearances while this will be the first bowl game since 2001 for the Cardinal. STANFORD +9

Insight Bowl

Sun Devil Stadium – Tempe, AZ

Iowa State +2 total 48 vs.. Minnesota: The Golden Gophers were crushed in this bowl game last year and were embarrassed, look for a big effort this year. MINNESOTA -2

Georgia Dome-Atlanta

Tennessee +4 total 49 vs. Virginia Tech: This looks like a low scoring game and we will just side with the under. UNDER 49

Friday, Jan. 1

Outback Bowl

Raymond James Stadium-Tampa

Northwestern +7½ total 55 vs. Auburn: HAPPY NEW YEAR as some will be betting and hitting the sack and for the smart ones who had a good night sleep we will be getting up early and taking the points and over the total. NORTHWESTERN +7 ½ and Over 55

Gator Bowl

Municipal Stadium – Jacksonville

Florida State +3 total 60 vs. West Virginia: This will be a good ole boy win for the outgoing Bobby Bowden, we will bet the money line and take the Seminoles. FLORIDA STATE ON THE MONEY LINE

Capital One Bowl

Citrus Bowl Stadium – Orlando

LSU +2½ total 44 vs. Penn State: There is an old adage that if you give Joe Paterno more than two weeks to prepare for a game he wins. PENN STATE -2½

Rose Bowl

Rose Bowl Stadium – Pasadena

Ohio State +3½ total 51½ vs. Oregon: I won’t bet on this game as I just can’t bet on the Buckeyes and I won’t bet against as I will be rooting for them, so I will just bet the game over and hope they outscore the Ducks and I just may use them in a teaser. OVER 51½

Sugar Bowl

Superdome – New Orleans

Cincinnati +12 total 57 vs. Florida: Bearcats no covers in their last four games and they were very lucky to win three of them, they can score but don’t believe they will be able to stop a fired up Gator team that played one bad game. If HC Urban Meyer stays or goes it won’t matter as the Gators will roll. FLORIDA -12 AND OVER 57

Saturday, Jan. 2

International Bowl at Rogers Centre-Toronto, Canada

Northern Illinois +6 total 50 vs. South Florida

We will just bet this game under and not watch. UNDER 50

Papa John Bowl at Legion Field-Birmingham

Connecticut +5 total 51 vs. South Carolina

Huskies won their last three games to get here and they are one feisty team. U CONN +5

Cotton Bowl

Cowboys Stadium-Arlington

Mississippi -2½ total 50½ vs. Oklahoma State: Would just love Ole Miss except for the last game of the season but will still side with them and the under. MISSISSIPPI -2½ and Under 50½

Liberty Bowl

Memorial Stadium – Memphis

Arkansas -7½ total 63½ vs. East Carolina: Will side with Conference USA champs the East Carolina Pirates who sizzled late in the season as HC Skip Holtz have them playing just great ball. EAST CAROLINA +7½

Alamo Bowl

Alamodome-San Antonio

Michigan State +7½ total 60½ vs. Texas Tech: I love to bet these late games over and don’t see any reason that both of these offenses will be stopped. OVER 60½

Monday, Jan. 4

Fiesta Bowl

University of Phoenix Stadium

Boise State +7 total 55 vs. TCU: Both teams have something to prove and the winner will say they have dibs on part of the National Championship and they should get a shot at Texas or Alabama. OVER 55

Get the last three bowl games in next week’s column and have a safe and happy New Year.
