Last week it was my birthday, and by reading my column over the last several months you know I like to eat. So, it should be no surprise that on my day I wanted to go out for dinner.
Since this was a special occasion and I wanted to go somewhere special I decided on visiting Michael’s located in the South Point Casino. Now if you are looking for a great night of dining and don’t care about spending some money this is your place.
Michael’s caters to providing gourmet food with World Class service. There were no less than four different waiters taking care of every need for my wife and I. Michael’s décor is old school Vegas with big leather booths that provides a romantic setting for you and your lady.
You know this is going to be special the minute the menu is opened. There are his and her menus. The ladies menu has no prices on it so she doesn’t see how much you are spending on her. Hey if someone is on a first date maybe you might want her to know how much you’re forking out for dinner to impress her (lol).
If you want to start with an amazing appetizer I highly recommend trying the Crab or Lobster cocktail. From the presentation to the taste, this is just an amazing way to start any meal. They serve this appetizer on a lighted chilled holder that looks like a block of ice. Again the level of detail just for an appetizer was amazing.
You can then go to one of their salads prepared for two at tableside. It will be tough deciding an entrée as they have so many tempting choices. If you opt for something from the broiler all of their meats are cooked over charcoal giving the steaks that great flavor.
Other dinner for two options are rack of lamb or chateaubriand. On this night I went with the Veal Saltimbocca, which was excellent. The wife sticks with what she likes – filet. Never can go wrong there.
After all this fabulous food they push out a dessert cart with so many selections it will make your head spin. There are Cherries Jubilee and Bananas Foster for two prepared tableside. Although everything looked so good the wife told the waiter I had a birthday cake waiting at home so we passed.
Hearing it was my birthday the waiter came back with a piece of pumpkin cheesecake and a candle. Well pumpkin cheesecake is my wife’s favorite so we couldn’t be rude and graciously accepted his offering.
Now you would think this was it. How could this fabulous night get any better? Well it did.
After everything we ate, plus the cheesecake, they wheeled out a big bowl of fruit and another dish. It had fruit dipped in white and dark chocolate. These dipped fruits were amazing and complimentary.
I won’t kid you, Michael’s is not cheap, but the food and the experience make it a place you have to experience at least once for a special occasion. It’s one of Las Vegas’ best restaurants and why I’m giving my highest rating – 4 Forks!
