Downtown Summerlin continues to grow with shopping, dining and entertainment options for everyone. One of the recent openings was Maggiano’s Little Italy. Now you may recognize the name from the first Maggiano’s located on the Strip at Fashion Show Mall. This one is located at 10940 Rosemary Park Drive in the heart of the Downtown Summerlin complex.

Generally I’m not one to write up chain restaurants, but when I find one with good food and that offers good value to its customers, I will.

The wife and I have gone to Maggiano’s Little Italy on the Strip many times. When we have family and friends in town, looking out at the hustle and bustle of the Strip is always a great backdrop to a nice dinner. When the second location opened right in our neighborhood we were ecstatic. I was happy to see all of my favorite dishes on the menu and had a pleasant surprise when our waitress pointed out there are some new items not at the Fashion Show Mall location.

One of the new menu items was Marco’s Meal for Two. No, I’m not making that up. For $42.95 two people can dine not for one night but two. Let me explain what a great deal this is. You start by picking out any appetizer, flatbread or two side salads. Then you each pick a pasta dish from their classic pasta menu and a dessert to share.

Now if we stopped right there we would have a good deal as the Mrs. and I just had a great pasta dish of our choice and shared a great dessert for $42.95. That’s a nice night out and didn’t kill the wallet, but you’re not done. You get to choose two more pasta dishes to take home.

You can pick the meals you just had or two totally different dishes. It’s up to you. Guys, it’s like hitting a two-team parlay – you take the wife out one night and she doesn’t have to cook the next night either. Trust me, that earns you bonus points in the good hubby department.

So for our two-night feast we started with the Mozzarella Marina. You get four big squares of breaded mozzarella served with marinara sauce. Next up were our entrée choices. Lori went with Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and I ordered Spaghetti and Meatball with meat sauce. For dessert we went with the Chocolate Zuccotto Cake, which is rich chocolate cake layered with Sambuca mousse.

We weren’t done because we got to pick two more entrees to take home; so what do I want to eat tomorrow? Lori chose Mom’s Lasagna while I went with the Taylor Street Baked Ziti with Italian Sausage. Both of the dishes were packed nicely and heated up well and we enjoyed a second meal the next night. What a great idea for busy working families!

The food is very good and the portions are big enough to share so I had some of my Baked Ziti and some of Lori’s Lasagna. The waiters and waitresses are all very friendly and attentive to your needs. I give Maggiano’s Little Italy a rating of 3.75 Forks.
