The Rams front office bet big on Matthew Stafford when they gave up two first-round picks and a third, plus Jared Goff to acquire him. This coming Sunday, the team will find out just how well the gamble pays off. Getting to Super Bowl 56 is a nice payoff, of course. Winning the Lombardi Trophy would be even better.
Bettors interested in banking on Stafford a little more should also check some of the Super Bowl prop bets sportsbooks have posted on the Rams QB.
Super Bowl Props: Matthew Stafford
Passing Yards over 278.5 -115 (DraftKings), under 281.5 -114 (FanDuel)
Stafford has been on fire during the playoffs, completing 72 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and just one interception over L.A.’s three games. While he only had 202 yards against the Cardinals, he tallied 366 against the Buccaneers and 337 against the 49ers. During the regular season, he went over 278.5 yards in 11 games.
Stafford gets a shot during the Super Bowl against a defense that gave up 310 yards to Derek Carr a few weeks ago but held Patrick Mahomes to 275 yards.
- O/U 1.5 -220/+180 (Caesars)
Stafford had multiple touchdowns in every game but four during the regular season. In the playoffs, he has had two in each game. Cincinnati’s defense gave up three to Mahomes but held Ryan Tannehill and Derek Carr to just one each. However, the Rams passing game is on par with the Chiefs and could be as productive (or better) against the Bengals.
- O/U 2.5 +160/-200 (BetRivers)
It would be a surprise if Stafford did not throw at least two touchdowns — but three? Stafford tossed 3+ touchdowns in nine games during the regular season. Mike White (Jets) and Justin Herbert (Chargers) were the only quarterbacks to throw 3+ on the Bengals during the regular season.
Completions over 24.5 -112 (BetRivers), under 24.5 -105 (Caesars)
Stafford completed 31 passes against the 49ers and 28 against the Buccaneers but only 13 against the Cardinals. He had more than 24 completions in eight games during the regular season. With a Lombardi Trophy on the line, the Rams will probably turn to Stafford to get it done in the passing game, making it easy to see him completing 25+ passes.
Pass Attempts over 35.5 -125 (DraftKings) under 36.5 -105 (BetMGM)
The Rams leaned on Stafford against the Buccaneers (38 attempts) and 49ers (45 attempts). He had 35+ attempts in eight games during the regular season. With how Joe Burrow has been playing, if the game turns into a shootout, Stafford could easily attempt 35+ passes.
However, if the Rams defense can live up to its reputation, Stafford might be handing the ball off for most of the second half.
Super Bowl Props: Matthew Stafford vs. Joe Burrow
Most Passing Yards: Matthew Stafford -114, Joe Burrow -106 (FanDuel)
Both are excellent quarterbacks with a strong group of skill position guys to work with. But Burrow will face a more formidable defense, and the Bengals will probably try to establish the run more than the Rams.
Player To Throw Most Interceptions: Matthew Stafford -118; Joe Burrow -106 (BetRivers)
Stafford was tied for the league in interceptions during the regular season with 17 (Trevor Lawrence); Burrow threw 14. But during the playoffs, Stafford has thrown only one, while Burrow has two. The Rams defense recorded 19 interceptions during the regular season; the Bengals 13. During the postseason, the Bengals defense has had six, while the Rams defense has had four.
Player To Have Highest Completion Percentage: Matthew Stafford -113; Joe Burrow -110 (BetRivers)
Burrow has had a better completion percentage throughout the season, but Stafford has been throwing a little better during the playoffs. The Bengals defense has allowed quarterbacks to complete 67.1 percent of their passes this season, the Rams 66.6 percent.
