The 2023 Maui Invitational is among the best early college basketball tournaments during ESPN’s Feast Week. Kansas is the favorite to win the event and will play Chaminade, the host school of the tournament, in the first round.
12 games will take place across three days from Monday through Wednesday. The championship game is scheduled for early Wednesday evening on the East Coast. This year’s event takes place in Honolulu due to the Hawaii wildfires in Maui in August.

If the favorites all win in the first round, the semifinals would feel like a Sweet 16 night with top-caliber opponents.

Picks for Maui Invitational Favorites, Longshots
Marquette (+600)
While it won’t be a layup like Kansas has in the opening round, UCLA is a young team that has the second-worst odds to win it all. Marquette has one of the better early-season wins among all competitors, taking down Illinois 71-64 on the road last time out.
The Golden Eagles have a huge advantage in the backcourt. Kam Jones leads the team with 19.3 points per game and has nailed 47.6 percent of his 3-point attempts (10-for-21). Typically leading the team with assists, senior Tyler Kolek stepped up with 24 points in the win over the Illini.
We like the value based on the experience Marquette has on the team. The big question will be if they can pull off a probable shootout against Kansas if they’re able to get past UCLA on Monday night.
Gonzaga (+1000)
Getting a team like Gonzaga with the odds this long feels like a deal. Granted, most of the reason for this number are the Bulldogs having the toughest pathway to win it all. After a draining first game against Purdue, they could potentially have Tennessee. Follow that up with a likely opponent in either Kansas or Marquette.
Four-digit odds are reasonable, especially with having to replace Drew Timme. As you’d expect, another big man in freshman Braden Huff is ready to take that role. There’s also the issue of not really knowing how good the Zags are. They have a 15-point victory against Yale, and put up over 60 points in both halves against an NAIA opponent.
