One of sports’ best phrases is “Game 7”, and fans and bettors will be treated to a series-deciding tilt when the Phoenix Suns host the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday.

Historically in the NBA Playoffs, the home team has an advantage. That’s particularly true of Game 7s.

In this Western Conference semifinal series, the Mavs and Suns have each protected their home floor through the first six contests, going 6-0 against the spread in the process. The smart bet may be on that trend continuing during Sunday’s Mavericks-Suns Game 7 showdown, although Phoenix is being asked to cover another big number.

The spreads and moneyline prices levied at online sportsbooks suggest the Mavericks have a steep hill to climb. The Suns are 37-10 at home (including postseason). That shouldn’t come as a surprise considering they owned the NBA’s best record. They’ve also dominated the head-to-head series with Dallas, winning 12 of their last 15 meetings.

In terms of the total, the ‘under’ has cashed in four straight in this series after the ‘over’ started 2-0. That trend, though, is reflected by the plummeting number for Game 7, as 211 for Game 6 was the previous series low.

Game 7, Stars Time To Shine

Close-out games — Game 7s especially — are the stages on which NBA stars elevate their status. Suns point guard Chris Paul — though without a championship ring to his credit — is a surefire Hall of Famer. However, it’s his teammate, Devin Booker, who has the opportunity to put himself deeper into the mainstream consciousness as one of the NBA’s premier superstars.

Booker has averaged 25.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists through the series’ first six contests, and his all-around game — not just his prolific scoring ability — will be in focus Sunday. Booker is far from an unknown quantity, but if he delivers another dominant performance to lead his Suns into the Western Conference Finals, his star will continue to ascend.

It’s fair to suggest Luka Doncic is in a similar boat, but as prolific as he’s been, both at home and on the road, he’s going to need some help from his mates if the Mavericks are to pull off the Game 7 upset.

Both Booker and Doncic are prominently featured among player props for Sunday’s tip-off. At both FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook, Doncic is listed with an ‘over/under’ on points of 34.5, and Booker is offered at 28.5.

Odds To Win Western Conference

The Suns were considered favorites to make it to the NBA Finals at several books. However, being pushed to a decisive Game 7 has allowed the Golden State Warriors to lay claim to that title. A Suns win on Sunday could very well restore them as the team to beat in the Western Conference.
