The Golden State Warriors protected their home floor with a series-opening victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Already favored to advance to the NBA Finals, the Dubs’ Game 1 win shortened their Western Conference Finals price across the industry’s top sportsbooks.

Luka Doncic and the Mavs aren’t strangers to series deficits. They dropped Game 1 against the Utah Jazz before prevailing in six games; and they dropped games 1 and 2 against the Phoenix Suns before advancing in seven. Nobody should count out the Mavs just yet even in spite of their lengthened odds.

Warriors series-opening odds ranged from -220 to -225 to advance while the Mavs backers could find plus-money odds in the +180 to +185 range. Those numbers, naturally, have stretched in opposite directions.

The Warriors continue to remind those with a hazy memories of how dominant they can be. The scary takeaway from Wednesday’s 112-87 victory is they didn’t receive monster performances from Stephen Curry (21 points) or Klay Thompson (15). They did, however, produce seven double-digit scorers.

That level of balance will continue to stress the Mavs’ defense. More stressing than the Warriors’ ability to score, however, may be Doncic’s opening performance — 6-for-18 shooting, 20 points, seven turnovers. He’ll bounce back but will need his teammates to step up as well.

Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd remains one of the Mavs’ most important assets. His experience will be invaluable for a relatively inexperienced team facing an early series hole.

Mavericks vs. Warriors Game 2 Odds

Golden State is a healthy favorite to stretch their series lead to 2-0 with a Game 2 win.

Western Conference Finals: Old Guard vs. The New

Curry (26.4 PPG in postseason) and Thompson (19.9) have established themselves as two of the game’s elite. They’ve adopted a third “Splash Brother”,  Jordan Poole (19.3). The trio has combined for nine 30-plus point efforts through the first two rounds of the playoffs. As much firepower as the trio brings to each game, the fact that they don’t have to light up the scoreboard to win is ominous for Mavs backers.

The Mavs’ Doncic has already sent home the likes of Donovan Mitchell and Devin Booker, but he’ll need to sharpen up against a Warriors team committed to making his life difficult.

“They did a great job”, said Doncic of the Warriors’ defensive performance in Game 1. It’s reasonable for bettors to anticipate offensive adjustments from the Mavs in Game 2.

He’ll continue serving as the driving force and will need his supporting cast to step up once again as well. Doncic has averaged 30.5 points across 11 postseason contests while leading the Mavs with a staggering 40.2 percent usage rate. It will be up to the likes of Jalen Brunson (22.3) and Spencer Dinwiddie (30 points vs. Phoenix in Game 7) to provide the necessary production alongside Doncic if the Mavs are going to make this a series.

These players and more will be featured in among sportsbooks’ player prop offerings and same-game parlays. FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook, for example, list Doncic’s Game 2 point total at 31.5, but that’s only the tip of the iceberg.
