The college Bowls are set with Florida State an 8½ point favorite over Auburn with a total of 65.
The first thing you want to do is hit the app or run to your nearest sports book and bet this game OVER. Pass on some Christmas gifts and just tell the kids, wife or girlfriend, “Sorry honey, I had to bet the Championship game OVER.”
When it wins you will get a piece of the pot and if doesn’t go OVER you will be able to find me at the airport on my way out of town.
No, I am just kidding. Buy the gifts first and bet what is leftover or use some of that money in your sock. Yes, I’m talking to you Tom Sturgeon, the money in your socks, the same ones you wore at Waterford Park.
It was one crazy and upsidedown day in the NFL on Sunday as the bad weather games went OVER and the good weather games went UNDER. Go figure.
The one that got everybody was the blizzard in Philly with at least six inches of snow coming down hard throughout the game. There were just eight points scored in the first half and I am possessing an UNDER 53 ticket saying easy win.
Then in the fourth quarter all heck breaks loose and the Eagles went up the middle like the Lions decided they didn’t want to play snowball anymore. The books got the money as the game landed 54.
Very strange to say the least.
In college, Ohio State just could not score enough points to overcome their lack of defense. Instead of playing for the BCS Championship they will be heading to the Orange Bowl to face Clemson who can light up the scoreboard. We will be betting this game OVER. Even with the Buckeye loss their great band stole the show. I love it when they play “Hang On Sloopy” – the official rock song of the state of Ohio and Ohio State University.
The song is about Dorothy Sloop from, you guessed it, Steubenville. Her real name was Dorothy Sloop Heflect and she was a jazz singer and a very accomplished piano player. She toured from the 1930’s through the 50’s, mostly playing in New Orleans.
Dorothy recorded an album called “Dixie and Sloopy” in 1957 with Yvonne Dixie Fasnacht, a jazz vocalist and clarinet player who ran a place on Bourbon Street called Dixie’s Bar.
The song “Hang on Sloopy” was made popular by a group call The McCoys so we will just hang on Sloopy and wait till next year when Urban Meyer shores up the defense and they will be dotting some eyes in Columbus next year.
Now a bettor who I know well tells me, “you know I just can’t win!” So I say maybe he should change his approach to how he is betting. He replies about betting this way for years but just can’t win.
My good friend of over 50 years is Jim “Longo” Long. We go back to our early years at Washington Bar in Steubenville in the early 60’s. Now Longo bets maybe half the card or more on any given day. On Saturdays during football he may have at least $22 to win $20 on 50 games.
When really liking a game he would step his bet up to $55 to win $50, but always lose like he was in a new universe. He says this week he fooled them as he bet $56 not $55 and his team won.
Now, you have to know this guy would appreciate this story, but it is true so sometimes you need to do things a little different, like $56 to win $50. Change things.
If you are looking for some “stalking” stuffers get out and bet some bowl games. We always get some three team parlays honoring the three wise men.
Oher bowl games I will be betting are Baylor beating UCF in the Fiesta Bowl and Alabama defeating Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl – two nice “stalking” stuffers.
I was very happy to see our UNLV Rebels go to the Heart of Dallas Bowl on New Year’s Day. They will be getting at least a TD against North Texas and we will be taking the points. GO REBS!
Last week I split with my two college games, losing the Missouri game when they imploded in the fourth quarter. I knew I was in trouble when they went to a 2 point favorite. My NFL game was an easy winner.
Who will it be in this very important Week 15? I would really like to take the Falcons against the done and I mean cooked Redskins but will pass and wait till they fire Mike Shanahan.
I am going to take the COLTS -6½ as I look back on their previous four losses before falling this past Sunday. The following week they came back and won in all four, so if history is correct they will get the win at home against the Texans. Indy beat them Nov. 3 in Houston 27-24.
