This week we went to Mesa Grill located inside Caesars Palace. I can tell you I have walked past Mesa Grill thousands of times over the years either going to the sportsbook or the poker room.
I’ve heard how good Mesa Grill is from a friend of mine but never had tried it for myself. This past weekend while playing poker with friends from out of town on Super Bowl weekend I decided to give it a try. As you can imagine, the place was very busy being the Saturday night before the Super Bowl. Our late reservation worked out great as we had a long poker session and watched all the college basketball action.
There are three high traffic areas right there, the sportsbook, the poker room and the hot new nightclub Omnia.
Location, location, location is what they say and boy did that work out well for Bobby Flay and his Mesa Grill. The décor is hip and with its glass enclosure if you plan your seating just right you can look right at your special someone on a romantic dinner and still see the games over her shoulder in the sportsbook. Yes, for the diehard gamblers like me this is an added bonus.
For my meal I started out with the Baby Romaine Salad, which basically is their version of a Caesar Salad. Their roasted garlic dressing was excellent and the croutons they use are not your ordinary everyday kind. They use a warm hominy crouton that is made from cornbread. This was a very nice touch but the topper for me that put this salad over the top was the Chorizo sausage. This is one of my new favorite salads in town.
I don’t talk about bread that often in my reviews but the bread basket here is worth mentioning as they have three different kinds. My favorite was the jalapeno cornbread muffin.
For my entrée I went with the 22 ounce Bone-In Chipotle Glazed Rib Eye. The taste of this steak was amazing with its seasoning and it was cooked to perfection. At $48 for this steak it’s one of the best values on the Strip. Most Strip restaurants charge $60 and up for a bone-in rib eye. As good as the steak was the price made it even better.
For my side dish I went with the Double Baked Potato with horseradish and green onions. This was a perfect side to go along with my steak.
For dessert I went with the Chocolate Cajeta Cake, the perfect ending to a fabulous meal as it’s served with Chocolate Vanilla Swirl Ice Cream plus a chocolate crunch topping. Although all chocolate it’s not super rich, which sometimes is just too over powering. I really enjoyed this dessert and highly recommend it.
Our waiter was extremely friendly and attentive and even though we were one of the last groups of the evening I never felt rushed to get out the door. This may not seem like a big deal to most but the last guests should always be treated just like the first ones. That’s just one of my personal pet peeves and they passed with flying colors on that one.
