Mets vs. Dodgers Betting Overview
Los Angeles is in a funk right now, as they have fallen below .500 with the loss in the opening game of the series, coming off losing two to the Cubs in a three-game set. The pitching staff has been the primary concern as they enter with a team ERA of 4.41 and a K/9 of only 8.58.
Offensively, the Dodgers are as good as anyone, which means they are the perfect “just bet the over” team. The total has gone over in nine of the Dodgers’ 17 games, including six of the last nine for Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, the Mets are also not striking many batters out, but they are ranked 11th in team ERA, and the offense has been the most well-balanced in baseball as they hit for power and has the best walk rate in baseball.
Make sure you are aware of all the betting angles for this game. This means looking into the lineups, starting pitchers, and betting trends to give you the best advantage possible.

Starting Pitchers
Tonight’s starters feature a legend of the game, Clayton Kershaw, taking on a guy who is off to a hot start for the Mets, Tylor Megill. Before we give our Mets vs. Dodgers prediction, let’s look at tonight’s pitching matchup.
New York Mets: Tylor Megill
2022 Stats: 3 G, 3-0, 16 IP, 2.25 ERA, 13 K, 4 ER, 0.1 fWAR
For the second-straight season, Megill is off to a hot start to the season. He missed most of the season after a bicep injury and struggled coming out of the pen at the end of the season. However, with the injuries to the Mets’ staff, Megill was called up to make a few starts while the rest of the rotation gets healthy.
Luckily, he is off to a great start as he comes in with a 2.25 ERA, and although Megill is giving up more hard contact, his ground ball rate is also up, as he is relying on his great defense behind him to produce outs.
He may run into problems tonight against a loaded Dodgers lineup, especially since he draws fewer swings and misses. Still, Megill has done an excellent job at keeping the ball in the ballpark and limiting the damage in his 16.0 IP.
Los Angeles Dodgers: Clayton Kershaw
2023 Stats: 3 G, 2-1, 18.0 IP, 3.50 ERA, 17 K, 7 ER, 0.2 fWAR
At 35 years old, Kershaw has clearly shown his decline as he is walking more batters, giving up more home runs, and is not generating as many swings-and-misses as he once did, but he is still recording outs and is still good to give you a quality start on any given night.
He enters tonight with a 1.50 HR/9 and a 2.0 BB/9, which are not sustainable numbers, but his velocity is up on his fastball, and he still has a K% of 23.3%. Tonight, he is going up against a Mets lineup with the second-best strikeout rate in baseball and is the top-ranked team in walk rate.
Still, Kershaw is pounding the strike zone and getting guys to chase at a high rate. If the Dodgers are going to get back to the World Series, they will need Kershaw to have his stuff, and so far, he has shown that he can still be a reliable arm in the Dodgers’ rotation.

Mets vs. Dodgers Lineups
Although the Dodgers are off to a rough start, the offense is still ranked third in runs (91), RBI (90), SLG (.463), and second in home runs (30). They are striking out at a high rate, but they also have a 12.3% walk rate, and there really is no easy parts of this lineup, with Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith all off to good starts.

However, while talented, the rest of the lineup has not been as good as the main guys, and with Smith being placed on the 7-day IL, the Dodgers will need someone to step up in his absence, especially for this series. With guys like Chris Taylor, Trayce Thompson, JD Martinez, and Max Muncy, there are many guys Los Angeles can lean on.
On the other side, the Mets continue to have one of the most well-balanced lineups, and with Pete Alonso’s hot streak combined with one of the best top-of-the-order lineups in baseball, the Mets can put a big number on the scoreboard before you know what really happened.
Not only do the Mets have one of the more patient lineups in baseball, but they also rank in the top 10 in runs (83), RBI (80), OBP (.344), and fWAR (3.2).
Mets vs. Dodgers Prediction
Despite having two solid pitchers for tonight’s matchup, we also have two lineups that put up big numbers, and both pitchers’ xERA is higher than their actual ERAs, which points toward some regression, which is a good sign for two great offenses.
The Dodgers prefer to beat you with its power, and going up against a guy that is giving up more contact in Megill, Los Angeles can make the Mets pay, especially if they can chase Megill early as the Mets’ bullpen has been shaky all season, especially after the loss of Edwin Diaz during the WBC.
With two red-hot offenses, we will roll with the over in this matchup. New York has one of the most patient lineups, and they have been making good contact and have been one of the higher-scoring teams in baseball. While the Dodgers have a higher-strikeout rate, Megill does not produce many whiffs, and if Los Angeles can constantly put the ball in play, which they have done all season, they should put enough runs on the board to push this one over the total.
Pick: Over 8.5 via DraftKings Sportsbook
Mets vs. Dodgers Prop Bet
Francisco Lindor Over 0.5 RBI (+155, DraftKings)
Although Lindor’s K% has ballooned up to 24% to start the year, he has also been taking more pitches, and as a result, he leads the NL in RBI (17) and has good power numbers with an ISO of .295 and has increased his Barrel% (9.1%), LA (13.8), and EV (90.8).
He has always been an excellent power-hitting shortstop, as his hard-hit rate is consistently above 40%, and against Southpaws, he has been as good as anyone in the league with a .741 SLG and 1.128 OPS. With the Mets lineup that will give you plenty of run-scoring opportunities, Lindor will get his chances to drive in some runs, and with his power numbers jumping off the page to start the season, Lindor is also a candidate to leave the ballpark (+550), which would also cash this prop.
